Educate me please... Where do I buy, what manufacturer, how much $???
Thought you said you were thinking of taking $1200 to up grade your M1A. I said why not leave your M1A as it is and get an M1 Garand. You can get a service grade from CMP for $625 or a special grade in 308 or 30-06 for $995.

IMHO, if you purchased it before 2014, you should keep it. i mean how many Long Arms do you have that's grandfathered in, without having it in the DOJ database?

If you sell it, it'll get registered to the new owner. Of course, it depends on your finance situation. If it's not an issue, i'd keep it, and upgrade.

As long as your upgrades meet the non-AW (no pistolgrip, adjustable stock, flashhider...etc), you're good to go. I like the ability to change out mags without a bullet button, and i can use my old 20 rndrs.

I did say that. But I'm just trying to justify having 2 308 semi autos. I've decided to stick with one and possibly hotrod it with the money I was going to spend buying the DPMS.

Oh, well you could get the service grade Garand they're 30-06. Then you wouldn't have to justify having 2 308s.
One of the reasons to get a Garand in 308 is it could share ammo with the M1A. The M1A is a hot-rodded Garand if you have 20rnd mags.

If you bought them before the ban they are legal.

When was the ban? I have a mini 14 I bought in 91'. I can have high cap for that? What about a folding stock? I had one but got rid of it thinking it was a no no.

If you have any hi-caps (once known as normal capacity) before Jan 1, 2000 then you can use them and keep them (unless the various cities get away with claiming them a public nuisance).

I wouldn't put a folding stock on your mini unless you registered it as an AW. Otherwise you just manufactured an AW and if not registered can lead to a world of trouble if caught. If you leave it stock (no folding stock, pistol grip, FS) and you have any hi-caps you can use them on your mini since it should be featureless if stock.

If you put a bullet button on the mini it looks like you can attach a folding stock but then again that takes away one of the advantages of having a featureless rifle.

Keep the M1A. I have one and I intend to keep it forever and hand it down to my son.
I cannot predict where California is going to go with the AWB. The bullet button may some day not be a exception in the future. I also have a registered pre-ban AR that I cannot technically pass down or sell within the state.

Sadly, the folding stock I have for my mini (Ramline) makes it just short of 30".
Mommy says I can't use it in this CommieFeinsteinstan because of this.
And along with the nanny rules, the logic for installing a folding stock is lost.
Along with the folding (Extendable) stock comes a bullet button.
Why would I want to put a bullet button on my mini?
That is like putting on a nice suit, going out to find a pretty girl, and then castrating yourself once you convince her to come back to your place.
So, for now, the stock hangs out at my place in WY.

I'm in the same boat as the op. I have a scoped m1a, a Garand and a 20in scoped repr.. I've been mulling selling the m1a for a scar 17... Decisions, Decisions... Ugh

You can buy the Ruger SR762 complete new and with magazines for $1699 street price. Comes with Ruger warranty (excellent), it is a piston gun, and it only weighs 8.6 pounds.

You could sell the M1A and get the Ruger for not much cash. Then you'd have a keeper with piston reliability.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.
