With a Saiga, to take standard AK handguards, you have to do either:
    A. a full front end conversion, which either takes a decent amount of cash or tooling, or

    B. A bolt on conversion, which some people look down upon.

So once you add that on top of all the conversion parts needed, you are looking either damn close to the same price, or higher.

So cost can be a factor with that. You end up spending a bit more, especially with how saigas are priced lately.

Also, I personally like the look of the combo gas blocks. Granted this is a Draco conversion, and trying to allocate money for the SBR stamp.

Converting a Saiga requires gas tube and a lower hand guard bracket. About $100.

I actually prefer gas block / sight combo, this means you can cut down the barrel and pin a comp on it. One thing I don't like AK is they are way longer than an AR.

I have seen Saigas in the $450 range lately and while I am not up on current conversion costs I would think $200 less from the git-go and then building it exactly the way you want it would seem to be a viable option. As I mentioned though I am talking about the people that post about how they are going to mod the M10, not those leaving it stock.

Admittedly though that short sight radius is what really kills the deal for me. The TWS cover could be added to regain some radius but then it negates the upgraded adjustable rear sight of the M10.

In general I also see no benefit to a pistol grip in Cali and the idiotic BB rules it triggers. Saiga and 30rd mags makes much more sense to me. To each his own though.

Short sight radius does have an advantage in that it is faster. It follows that most MIL AKs with a shorter sight radius typically have short barrels as well.

200 in conversion cost isn't going to cover properly doing the front end, meaning you will most likely be using cheap pull off handguards and a CSS or similar bolt on handguard retainer, opposed to pressing off the gasblock and FSB and adding a "real" retainer.
http://www.carolinashooterssupply.co...iginal-5pc.htm ~150 before you even look at the handguard swap. Add in a bullet guide (or make your own) and appropriate tools to do it, you are going to be shooting high of 200 very quickly.

It's really personal choice on that if its important to you or not. Honestly, the bolt ons work fine in my view, so if it saves some money and not having correct parts is no biggy, go for it.

I love mine. I definitely agree with the mag problem. It had been a headache trying to find a mag that works. All that said, the gun gets the most time on the range of all my rifles. Going features less is a must

the magazine issue that I have been hearing about. Is there a way to fix it so it more easily accepts magazines?

Just shave your mags a little, it worked great for me.

I filed down the top of the magazine catch. I was too scared to use a dremmel & risk over doing it, so I did it by hand in about a half hour. Filed about a dozen strokes, test fit, rinse and repeat.

I had a half dozen mags to test fit. Anything steel never had a problem to begin with. Cheapy plastic ones gave me trouble in the beginning. I was worried too that the steel mags would wobble once I corrected for the tapcos, but it turned out to be a non issue.

They all fit perfectly now, and my M10 accepts anything I've tried.

I've heard about the filing, but I think a before and after picture would help me. I don't want to file the wrong areas

Anyone know what MI quad rail this gun would take? I got the MI universal one at my house but it doesn't look like it wants to fit.
$125 is a good price for that work. If that was quoted to me, I would have gone for it. To be fair, Randal's price included barrel removal from the trunnion and reassembly. I guess your guy can do it without disassembling the barrel.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it will be very obvious when you have the gun and mag in hand.

;-) don't take this the wrong way but some of us are not as handy with tools and building/ fixing things as others. I know gun safety and how to shoot, but some of these finer details of fixing stuff eludes me
