People may hate on it, but I bought one of these uppers, and I absolutely love it. I've never experienced a problem.

LMT vs PWS vs POF

Decided to give you a little feedback after my first range trip with the PWS MK114 MOD 2-M upper. I shot 240 rounds with it. Everything was flawless. I am running the upper with the Geissele Super 42 Braided Wire Buffer Spring with their H2 buffer. I am very happy with the purchase and zero regrets from not getting the LMT. I am sure LMT would perform just as good. I was concerned that the FSC556 muzzle device will have too much flash but I am happy to report that I did not see any. The accuracy is well above my skill level. Comparing my groups with my DDM4 V7 PRO 18" and the same optic and reticle - they are essentially identical at 100y.
I shot it back to back with my DD M4A1. The M4A1 is still the king in my opinion. It has slightly smoother and more gradual recoil. I doubt this is a result of the H3 buffer in M4A1 and the H2 buffer in PWS. The RIS II handguard takes the heat much better as well.
PWS got another happy customer. I would like to try MK218 MOD 1-M .308 if I can find it.Comment

non extracting Revolution DI .308.
We have a tracking #-should arrive tomorrow. I will update.
Note from POF Gunsmith John DeSomma says "Inspected rifle. Checked headspace. Replaced Extractor. Test fired. Rifle cycled properly. I don't recommend Men/Magtech ammo due to overall length and brass softness issues"
Note that neither of those brands were run by us through this rifle, although I've shot plenty of Magtech handgun ammo over the years with no problems and the Galil and PTR have happily gobbled up some Men .308 I acquired a while back with no complaints.
But we have more bullets 1st ammo to run through this as well as some other brands so will hope for the best.Comment

I see clone lowers ,but only 8o percenters-does anyone do a finished clone lower,or do I have to mill my own out?Comment

Don't tempt me. I don't like piston AR's but I kind of want one of these.....price destroys the pws/brn180 too...might have to do a whole clone though.....if the clone parts ever get back in stock.

I love mine but have to shoot right handed cuz of no deflectorComment

What gas setting did you use on the PWS? One of the nice things about it is the three-position gas block. Admittedly, position 3 is for suppressed use and doesn’t apply in CA. I’ve found that I can run most brass ammo in position 2, which has a milder recoil than position 1.Comment
-
What does that mean? It transmits less heat to your hand? Do you have the plastic add-on thingies?Comment
-
I have not played with the adjustable gas block yet. I shot all rounds in position 1. 556 as well as .223. Next time I will experiment with the second position again with both types of ammo. I am also planning to test how it will shoot with the Geissele H3 buffer that I have on my M4A1. If I want a suppressor I would go with MK111 and make it a dedicated suppressed SBR. But this will require two tax stamps...
Yes and yes. RIS II is a lot beefier than the PWS PicLok handguard. In theory it should take longer to heat up but also longer to cool down. But to be fair the Magpul XTM rail panels provide better insulation than the Magpul M-LOK rail covers Type 1 and 2. I am considering mounting picatinny rail sections at 3 and 9 o'clock and XTM rail panels on top of them. This way it will have almost the same look and feel as my RIS II which I like very much.Comment

Crossing my fingers that POF made it right on our warranty repair on our

Updated note from POF gunsmith(wonder if that's Frank's son?)in quote above. Leaving for Cambria tonight so won't be able to shoot till wed or thurs. Hopefully POF will be on back on my recommend list!Comment

I thought about putting that RIS on my AR pistol, but I don't see the benefit, in my case. It's heavier than the normal handguards and I'm not going to Pic-rail anything on it.Comment

I don't know if this is going to be interesting for anyone. I might be talking to myself at this point but here we go.
I shot some more with the MK114 MOD 2-M and this time I had the time to play with different buffers, gas settings and ammo type - 5.56 vs .223. Long story short: in gas setting "1" it shoots flawlessly with Geissele H2/H3 buffers and 5.56 and .223 ammo. In setting "2" it shoots fine with both H2 and H3 buffers but it does not lock back on the last round. In that setting the bolt moves significantly slower and it does not feel right. But setting "2" and "3" are for suppressed use as per the manual and I am shooting unsuppressed.
I love this upper. I highly recommend it. I am getting another one and suppress it. I only wish PWS are offering it with a quad rail.Comment
