if you want a scope or other optic it will be a lot easier/better to mount it on a flat top. not to mention you can always put on a detachable carry handle on it if you wanted one later. are you talking about Irvington Arms?

No prob. haha you know i thought the same thing when i built my first AR, but no one made one just the way I wanted it and i didnt want to waste money on stock parts I was going to replace anyways. That first trigger pull had me worried. but all went well its really not to difficult to build one but does take some hassle out of it to just buy one whole.

you know if you want, you can always trim that barrel. I dont know that they do it but theres a guy in Los Gatos that will cut down the barrel and thread it for like $60 im assuming its got a rifle length gas system (with a 20" barrel) so you could cut it to 18" and have a nice SPR setup. just a thought

good idea to just wait for what you really want. I see 16" uppers for sale regularly in the sales forum. just check regularly i bet it takes you no more than 3-4 days to find one you like.

all up to you. You dont need many tools, but it takes a little time. problem is some parts are hard to come by right now. EX: barrels and BCG's. so it could take some time to find those parts at decent prices. it wont really save you any money anymore to build it yourself, but you can get the exact upper you want without wasting excess* cash on the stock parts you would have replaced anyways.

For your first rifle you are probably better off buying a complete upper.

I've had my eye on this for a week or so, but it is a bit out of my budget.
