I've seen 300 Blk at WalMart haven't seen 6.5 Grendel there but SGammo has it.

I'm coming around more and more to the Grendel option. Can anyone suggest a particular upper manufacturer? It would be mainly for longer range shooting and hunting.

You could always make the quantum leap to 6.5 Creedmore in a DPMS/AR10 platform.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

I'm looking to build up a 5.56 upper that I already have. If I buy a whole new rifle I would just go ahead and get a brand new 7.62 rifle.

Sorry meant to say that I'm building a 5.56 lower that I already have so that limits me to a 300 Blackout, a 6.5 Grendel and a 7.62 X 39 upper.

I can recommend the Black Hole Weaponry, Liberty, and Christiansen arms barrels. My current 6.5 Grendel barrel is a Sabre, which are no longer available, my 6.5CM is a BHW, and my 300Blk is a CMMG. They all shoot well.
Remember the mags and bolt are Grendel specific and you will probably need an adjustable gas block.

The 300Blk will use the same mags etc as your 5.56. In fact I use troy mags for 300blk and pmags for 556 so I don't accidentally grab the wrong mag for the wrong gun.

I'm looking for a complete upper and realize that I would need new mags. Thanks for the suggestion about keeping the mags separate so we don't grab the wrong one by mistake.

                    Blade,

Only problem with AR10 in Creedmoor, xtremely heavy for anything but bench shooting. A2

My ar10 with a 24" barrel is pretty beefy, but it's a great feild rifle

i own both, you can't really compare the 2 because you're comparing apples to oranges. the blackout is a good short range cartridge, the grendel is a decent long range cartridge. if you're planning on close range hunting the Blackout will work great and you have the benefit of being able to use your 5.56 mags and bolt. if you're planning on taking longer range shots, like 200 yds or beyond i'd go with the grendel for the superior performance.
5.56: reach out and touch someone.
458 SOCOM: reach out and knock someone down.

not to mention cost difference, a 300blk complete upper (even if you get a dedicated BCG and CH instead of reusing your BCG+CH from your 556) is gonna be roughly $400. For Grendal the barrel alone is starting at $200, and you can't reuse the 556 bcg. BCG is like $150 (correct me if I am wrong).

So I've decided to definitely get a complete 6.5 Grendel upper and maybe a 300 blackout upper. I have a 5.56 upper that I might reuse the bolt and bolt carrier on for my blackout upper. Just trying to decide which Grendel upper to get. PSA has a huge selection of 300 Blackout uppers on sale. So do a bunch of other people. The 6.5 Grendel upper is a little harder to find.

yeah, i am rocking a <$300 300blkout rig myself (midway ar stoner barrrel $100, anderson upper $50, $80 ALG handguard, recycle 556's BCG); in case OP wants to spend more on the nicer stuff.
