As I will from yours. I really wanna know how you shoot 2000 yards without a canted rail. I'm not an expert in Kentucky windage like you.

That isn't what I said. I run 90 MOA on my .338 Lapua and 70 MOA on my larger, higher velocity rifles. I didn't say that I don't use a canted mount; I specifically said you need the right cant, which just means you need to fall within a more precise range for the BEAST since the scope has the number of clicks for the specified range, but it is ultimately constrained by the 34mm tube, so it would need to be lined up just right. And, it's not optimal practice to shoot at the scope's extrema.

Like I said, shoot me a PM, and I am happy to go shoot ELR with you rather than bicker over the internet.

J-Cat and JMP you are both invited to come shoot some ULRSA with myself and several others.
We start at a mile for the new shooters but to become a qualified member you need to qualify at 2000 yards on up to 3500 yards.
You can use any scope you have and we have a spare set of Ivey Rings in 30mm 34mm and 35mm that have 150 MOA so you can shoot the plain 338 Lapua and still get on the target. We use the scopes internal adjustments to complete the range.

I will post a heads up early in 2015 listing the details of our shoot and how to get there. Unfortunately for most this match will be in Northern California which means a half day of travel but the clubs founder is in Redondo Beach so southern shoots are coming. He is waiting on some custom builds so he can reach out and hit some targets.

Lynn, what are the qualifying criteria at 2000-3500 yards? That could be fun, so I might be interested depending on schedule and timing. Obviously, a regular .338 Lapua won't cut it at that range, so I'd bring a couple of more capable cartridges.

As would I and they would probably be more accurate, but you wouldn't look as cool at the range!! Remember it's better to look good than shoot good!!!!

To be honest with you most shooters wont even hit paper with the current set of rules. The founder was necking down a large Russian case to 50 caliber with about 650 grains of water capacity. He wants to use the standard IBS/NBRSA 1000 yard target which is 42x42 and your second shot counts.

I can do that at a mile, but at 3k+, I'd need a gust from the gods. Currently, I am running a .375 with a G1 BC of .99 at 3,220fps, so I can stay supersonic, but with that much hang time at the outside ranges, 42" is microscopic. I suppose I'd need to get out and practice, which I will after the winter (I hate cold). Some big targets for novices at 3,500 would be great, and the pros can hit the 42" at 3,500 yards, which is a hell of a shot.

And that statement, outside the context of this discussion, is true. But the whole point of what I said is that the Beast has an enormous amount of elevation compared to any German or Japanese scope. The Beast has 10 more mils.

You retorting that more elevation requires a more precise canted rail setup is just nonsense. A scope with LESS elevation would require a more precise matched rail and force you to the extreme of internal adjustment limits.

                        Like the S&B 4-16 with it's measly 13 mils.

This isn't bickering. This is me schooling you about basic geometry.

Please stop posting while you are behind. The Krauts have gone to 36mm scopes for their .338s and .50s in a more compact setup than the BEAST. This allows them to get more effective elevation range without pushing the extreme edges of the picture. Basic geometry, your statement is categorically false.

Go check out a SWFA HD 5-20x50 it has a 30mm tube and will give you 36 Mil in click value. All useful elevation range compared to a good 36mm scope? No.

I have no issue with you, or the fact that you think the BEAST is the greatest scope ever invented. That's fine, but you are mistaken with your facts.

My NF 3.5-15 has 36 mils of elevation. It has a 30mm tube. So what?

The Beast has 39. In the beginning of this discussion I said I'm comparing like scopes. I'm not comparing the Beast to $7K scopes. I'm comparing the Beast to like 5-25 scopes. Do you speak English???

BTW the Hensoldt has 36 mils of elevation in it's 36mm tube, the same as my F1. BFD. Just so you know, with a 100 yard zero I have 23 mils up and 13 down that I'll never use to its extremes.

All this LR shooting discussion sure rings the cash register bell loud..
Now, how does my MN 91/30 and half a spam can of ammo fit it this situation?

If you mount a reloading press on a bench that's too high, you can stand on your spam can to load precision longrange ammo.
