300 Blackout is getting popular in Texas and 223 is still very common there and here. Remington just released their 223 Hog Hammer ammunition so you there must be a demand for it.

I'll use 223, 357 mag carbine, 308 or 12 ga depending on the type of hunting.

I have seen pigs taken with all sorts of calibers.

My cousin's favorite is his Rem 700 in 243 which works great on most pigs we find in Monterey County.

My personal favorite is my Savage 270WSM that I have used with great effect on everything from little 120lb pigs all the way up to one that was over 450 lbs. At the same time, I have hit pigs in the spine right behind the head with the 270WSM, seen them go down, only to have them try to chase me as I get closer to collect and dress them.

I have seen 30-30 lever guns drop 250lbs pigs in their tracks, but I have also seen them fail to penetrate the cartilage plate on same 450lb boar mentioned above.

I have also seen (and by the way I do not condone this at all) my brother break down and kill a 160lb pig with a 17HMR and an excited miniature Australian Shepard because it was all he had and the pig was destroying one of our artichoke fields (FYI we had a depredation permit).

I guess the point in all of this is that pigs can be taken with many calibers. However, using even some of the larger calibers and good shot placement you can find yourself on the wrong end of an angry pig. So, hunt, have a good time, but be careful at the same time.

I would get a semi auto if you can.

I've never hunted anything before but have seen videos of those things taking a bullet and going for another 10 min, and at the same time I've seen them mess people up. Those 2 together is a bad combo. Again if legal I'd look into a big caliber semi for that just in case. I wouldn't not want to have to manual cycle with one of them pissed off with you in their sights.

.270 bolt. A p##### off adversary is the only way to hunt. Almost as much fun as an armed one, that's another story.

Need a hunting license and a wild pig tag.

Pigs are in season all year round and there is no bag limit on them.

Pigs can be taken using:
Centerfire rifle
Blackpowder rifle/musket
Centerfire handgun with minimum 4" barrel length
Shotgun
Bow
Crossbow
