They are just pigs not Dinosaurs. They are taken with everything from a 22 Hornet all the way up to a 50. Hell some idiots kill them with knives and spears.

OH well, let's face it...this thread will die a lot slower than a hog hit by anything greater than .243

The caliber debate is moot, since really, it's all about what backup sidearm your bringing. We all know that unless you shoot the pig in the head with a .338 LM or bigger it's going to find you and charge. What what sidearm is best? Sure .44 mag is good but you only get 6 bullets, seems like a septuple tap of .50AE would be more appropriate.

A hog will fall to a well placed 22. Well placed is a matter of a shooters ability. Will a 22-250 kill a hog? 243? Yes!!! Are most hunters able to place a pristine shot under pressure? A larger caliber will help with a poor shot to a point. Given range and projectile weight, anything from a 30-30 thru a 375 h&h will be just fine. As a hunter you owe it to your prey to give it a swift clean death. Why mess with a smaller caliber?

Everyone who knows anything knows that to really ensure you kill a hog you set up a kill box bounded by Claymores and have a SAW or M60 to cover it. And of course you call in mortar fire after wards but they still might live long enough to eat you and your children

I've killed pigs with 7mm Weatherby Mag, .300 Savage, .444 Marlin and my Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Mag(if close). I enjoy using my Marlin .444 the best with a 265 gr. Soft Point, Flat Nose bullet.

.444 Marlin will do the job, just dnt like the idea of the round jamming. Had one and thats all im gonna say about the Marlin.
Mosin with 180-200 gr. will knock them down and they aint gettin up.

Weather is improving so get ready to get one or two. Nice pic of the pig. You dont want shoot them a second time.

As some people with hunting experience mentioned here, caliber is the secondary thing,SHOT PLACEMENT is a must, I saw hogs running away with 300 winmag in them and saw them drop in the spot from 5.45x39 . Pigs are tricky bastards , always on the move , when I hunt them at close(40-150 yards) range AK 47/SKS is perfect for me(some times they'll charge,so the semi is a plus), long shots i use several calibers(6.5X55SE,308,300win,762X54R)
as long as i am sure i can make a head shot at 200-300 yards(if you wound pig at these range, good luck looking for it ).
                            80 yards 5.45

100+ yards , Saiga 7.62X39 4X POSP scope two head shots ,second was a lucky shot(or maybe I am just good )

Marlin 30-30 has been my pig gun of choice for 30+ years. Short lever action is a big plus.
