I love lever guns.
There is that cool nostalgic feel to them.
I dont have a 30-30 right now, but I do have a 45-70 fun to shoot can knock down a water buffalo, but expensive to feed ammo to.

My dads 30-30 winchester kicks like that friggin' team of mules. A dozen rounds will literally leave you bruised.

One of the reasons they are suddenly popular again is because people could find ammo for them when the panic hit. Every Wallyworld out there had boxes of it on the shelves far longer than most other centerfire rifle rounds. And it is the cheapest deer cartridge available in most places. Up until about 2 years ago, it was still under $10/box of 20 soft points. I like them. They are good rifles. And don't forget that there are other .30-30s out there other than lever actions. One of the most popular entry level hunting rifles for decades was the Stevens/Savage bolt action .30-30s.

you should reload this caliber, i do and it is one of my favorites. i dont cast for it but i have 1000 plated 150 gr bullets and is my current plinker.
oh and you can load .224 cal accelerators w/ a sabot

Word to the wise about lever action rifles. Either loctite the screws or tighten them up from time to time. They have a tendency to back out.

Same goes with any firearm that has screws, I saw a guy shooting a single action revolver on the range one time and it fell apart in his hand. He admitted he had never tightened up any of the screws.

I'm in agreement with many posts, a 30-30 is pretty cool. If you end up using it for HD, SHTF or a zombie killer, the first thing somebody thinks when they see it is "A cowboy gun" not a "assault weapon."

Yep I really like my old lever's but my Savage 340 is my most accurate 30-30.

30-30 is a great and versatile round. There are almost endless loads for it.

I've been kicking around the idea of making up some cast gallery loads. I don't cast, but cast bullets are cheap and Red Dot is cheap and easy to find. Similar to the 'universial load' I've seen a few recipes Red Dot and cast bullets at 1600 fps or so IIRC. A little Red Dot and a light cast bullet would be a fine small game load too I would think.

I probably shouldn't post this but I have a as nib 336W made in 2009 its a Marlin made in New Haven with a JM marked barrel does have the crossbolt safety I have never shot it and I don't believe the person I got it from did either.

I got my first deer with Remington's version of the 30-30. The rimless 30 Remington. I think it would be more popular today if Remington still made rifles for it.

I just wanted to add I also use a savage Stevens type model, an original 325 with the butter knife handle. It shoots MOA at 100, which is phenomenal for a 30-30, but has some weird point of impact issues when switching between 150 grain and 170 grain ammo. Both shoot excellent, just odd the the POI is like 12" different at 100 yards. Maybe that's what I get for buying so much old ammo from yard sales.
