Nice! Yes, they are classics, just like a '57 chevy, everyone wants/needs one.

I've got two, one from each Grandfather. I'll never sell em but do carry them in the woods. I've shot a bunch of Deer with each.

Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I enjoy occasionally shooting it for all sorts of reasons and, as I said, I keep going back and forth about whether I'll take it hunting some day.

That being said, why the sudden resurgence in .30-30 popularity? Ammo is scarce and people are apparently hoarding lever evolution like it's dragon gold. What's the deal?

Is it just that people are frightened that their ARs might get taken away and in searching for a 'high' capacity middle weight cartridge and gun to replace it are flocking to the .30-30 lever guns? I would have thought the .44s and .357s would have been a better fit.
I would guess it is because it's a round that, while not perfect for anything, is good enough at just about everything(except long range precision) to make it a viable "if you had one gun" round.

I may or may not own an AR-15, but my attraction to the 30-30 came in looking for a deer gun. Everyone was pushing me towards bolt actions but I just wasn't feeling the need nor desire to be able to take a deer at 600+ yards, I looked into other proven hunting rifles and the lever-action came up time and time again. 30-30 is a good mid range rifle caliber because point of aim = point of impact (within 10" kill zone on a deer) up to 240 yards. Throw in the flex tips and you gain some yardage. ALSO lever-actions IMO are more easily used defensibly than bolt actions in close encounters.
Tolerance is a virtue of those who believe in nothing.

                Looking for:

Really like my Mod 94, great pig buster. But, was wondering, what the heck is a 30-30 Improved!? What with those thin case walls on 30-30 brass, there isn't much to improve on. However, dfletcher pretty much cleared that question up .
                  Thanks df.

What's a good deer round for the 30-30?

Stuff I can get from K mart, Big5, etc.

I would love to have this, it's like a dystopian future nightmare lever gun.
The thing I can't figure out is, Why didn't they put a top rail on it?

Any brand with 150gr to 170gr bullets. Mostly what I see at Walmart, Big5, etc... is Remington, Winchester and Federal.

170 gr. core-lock would be my first choice, or the Lever Revolution round (harder to find). 100-150 yards is the sweet spot, after that it's a crap shoot.

I have a Marlin 336 and Winchester 94. The Marlin is ugly but has a great trigger. The Marlin seems to shoot better with Remington brass handloads and the Winnie prefers Winchester brass. Both are topped wit 150 gr. Core-Lokt bullets. I guess if I want to hunt them I need to find some copper solids for it.
