Forget everything short action and think single shot long action.
You can epoxy in a Davidson magazine follower yourself and it also helps to stiffen things up.

Interesting . I definitely want this build to have some quality parts . Wouldn't want action to have excessive slop . I thought I know what I want in beginning , I still like to stay within the plan I had . Having to known what works and what doesn't , I may have to work around it . There's so many options and it's overwhelming tho . But I really do like the action that accepts prefit barrel . There's plenty of time to compare and read reviews and such

Pre-fit barrels do not fit an action as precisely as a barrel that is machined to fit a specific action because the prefit ones have to be made looser so they will thread into every action that a manufacturer has ever made instead of just your specific action.Interesting . Precise fit between the barrel and the action is a factor in the ultimate accuracy a rifle ends up with.

If you want to stick with a Remington 700 Action, Pacific Tool and Gauge offers blueprinted 700 actions.
I'd also recommend looking at BAT Machine. They make two very good Remington clone actions. The fit and finish is quite good, and they use a mini-M16 style extractor, which I think is a good improvement over the Remington design. They use a conventional bolt release which improves your selection of triggers. The "HR" (Long Action) and "VR" (Short Action) are cut for the AICS magazines. Their "TR" has a few more features and is cut for the AW Magazines.
You can run a AICS magazine in an action cut for AW, but it's possible to jam the the bolt on the magazine if there is upward pressure (like if you rest the rifle on the magazine) when cycling the bolt.
I recently spent a good part of the day visiting BAT's shop and speaking with their key folks. I was quite impressed and will be using BAT actions on my upcoming builds.
You may also want to check out the Nesika Bay actions, also offered by Pacific Tool and Gauge. Nesika is now out of business (a casualty of the Remington bankruptcy). Nesika built very high quality actions (I have one on my LV benchrest rifle) and was ultimately purchased by Remington as part of their custom shop in Sturgis, along with Dakota firearms. The key folks from the custom shop formed Parkwest Arms, operating from the same Sturgis facility that was used by the Remington Custom Shop. It looks like PTG acquired a stock of their actions out of the bankruptcy that look favorably priced. If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. Good thing for the OP there will be only one correct answer, haha!!
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
Come on...what harm??

They don't use a sliding plate extractor any more?If you want to stick with a Remington 700 Action, Pacific Tool and Gauge offers blueprinted 700 actions.

They use a sliding plate on quite a few of their actions, but not on the Remington 700 clones. The clone actions (VR, HR and TR) all have mini M-16 style extractors.
Their website has an excel spreadsheet showing the details of their actions, including which ones use a sliding plate extractor. If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.Comment

Good to know. Any idea on the max COL they'll take?
The PSR magazines are DSSF and have an outer length of 4.2". That would be useful if anybody made a chassis that allowed their use with other actions.Comment

I think it looks like I'd expect a modern military sniper rifle to look and costs about what I think it would cost. The field changeable barrel enables more aggressive cartridges than the military has used in the past.
Litz won the Nightforce Challenge with one last year or the year before.
If you have the disposable income and it brings you enough joy, buy one.
If you didn't trust strangers on the internet, most of which who've never shot 2k yards, to tell you how to build something better or cheaper, it'd probably be a smart way to go.Comment

I pretty much trust Kevin Owen, but he wasn't paying for any of them. It's not a matter of is it any good in my mind. I figure nothing Barrett is going to be a bargain, but wanted to know whether it's somewhat overpriced, or outrageously overpriced.I think it looks like I'd expect a modern military sniper rifle to look and costs about what I think it would cost. OP
If you can afford a BAT action that is the way to go. Those are the actions i mentioned earlier with the tight tolerances. Borden also is making bigger actions now but you have to call him as they are not on his website.
