    Remy 700 actions

I've wanting to build a target shooting out of remington 700 for while and I figure it'll be good to start with an action . I've been searching bit on here and what top brand and most competition guys uses . I wont be doing any type of competition , but I wouldn't mind having quality parts for this build .

Had anyone have experiences with mid price action such as this ?
Shop rifle parts (2,790) at Brownells, including barrels, stocks, triggers, and bolt carriers to customize, repair, or upgrade your rifle’s performance.

If so , how much better is this compare to bone stock action like this one

You want a long action? If you want a short action, there seems to be a lot of good actions, like the Zermatt Origin that's on the same Brownell's page.

How far away are these targets you want to shoot at?

There is nothing wrong with a factory Remington 700 action.

But the premium "Remington 700 pattern" actions from companies like ARC, Curtis, Defiance, etc. do make significant improvements over the original design:

Integral recoil lugs, integral scope rails, 3-lug bolts, floating bolt head, side bolt release, quick-change barrel tenons, detachable trigger hangers, enhanced extractors (Sako, Mauser etc), fixed ejectors, controlled feed ...

Look up what features you'd want, and buy an action that has all those.

And in general, the premium actions feel less rattle-y and more slick.

Most custom actions are short because most benchrest and PRS cartridges are short. There are still a lot of long actions on the market, just not as many as short.

Unless you already own a Remington 700 action, I'd go with a Defiance, Gunwerks, or other quality custom action. In the long run, the custom actions will be cheaper than having a gunsmith true and blueprint the Remington 700 action. The other posts are referring to magazine length and the type of magazine you can use. The first one states that you must use a detachable magazine system from Seekins, and you cannot use a standard BDL magazine for a Remington 700. The second is saying something similar except the action is set up for a Wyatt's magazine which is for loading longer cartridges. What do you plan on chambering this rifle in?

A BDL cut on the underside of the receiver is required if you want to use a BDL magazine box setup.

That's the standard 700 system as made by Remington and also Wyatts but Wyatts boxes are longer so hence the longer port in the bottom of the receiver.

In the standard setup, the magazine box holds the cartridges but the cartridges actually feed from the lower rails of the receiver.

In the Seekins cut, you can NOT use a BDL magazine box so you MUST get an aftermarket bottom metal which has a detachable magazine which will have feed lips.
The most common one of those will be the AICS or AW mags.

AICS mags are center-feed and AICS magazines will fit into a BDL cut action.
AW mags are double stack at the top just like an AR-15 or an UZI and you can NOT use an AW mag in a BDL cut receiver because the BDL feed rails keep the AW mag from fitting up into the action far enough for the bolt to feed a cartridge.

The two actions above are NOT the same.
One is the "tactical" model which only takes detatchable mags.
The other is the "hunter" model which can take an AICS mag OR a Wyatt's extended factory BDL setup.
Hunters want lighter guns so they typically use the factory drop floor bottom metal and the Wyatts will allow a longer loaded cartridge length than an AICS mag.

You can't go wrong with Curtis custom and defiance actions. I've been using them for many years

Either action will work with an AICS magazine.
Only the tactical will work with an AW mag.

Is there a long action AW magazine?

Mostly 100 yards off a bench at a public range with 2K as a bucket list item or 100 yards to do development for what's intended to be a 2K gun? Somewhere in between?

This isn't intended to challenge or disparage what you're starting, just clarify.
