Because it makes them much more enjoyable to shoot.
NOT because the cartridges actually recoil enough to warrant a muzzle brake.Randall Rausch

Ross sold his company and is no longer making brakes at the old price point.
The new company is more expensive and does not seem to do the customized options anymore.
They just sell "standard" products.Randall Rausch

Ha ha, you made a funnyyyyy.
Let’s pull the heads out and screw them on strait.
My comments are consistent. Let’s recap.
The 6.5 CM has been touted as having a LIGHT recoil. Is a brake necessary? I would say no. To each his own.
I believe that if you can avoid using a break it is better for everyone’s hearing. A bruised shoulder will heal where hearing loss won’t.
I don’t care what anybody shoots, brake, no brake. 50 cal or .177 pellets.
I used to have a 30-378 with a brake that cleared the benches next to me when I would shoot it. I now have a 338-378 that is producing 5,000 ft lbs of energy at the muzzle. I’m sure when I shoot that with the brake I won’t be real popular at the range.
Last year I installed two scopes on two 300 WIN with no brakes. Needed them ready for the Elk hunt a week later. I sighted both in the same afternoon and tested for accuracy. 50 shots of 300 Win to the shoulder in a few hours- snowflakes need not apply.
Extra bashing of the 6.5CM was by design to bring it back to where it belongs.
A world class target caliber that can be used for up to deer size game. Nothing more, nothing less.
In short: When others are close by, the world is a better place without a muzzle brake.Last edited by tsmithson; 03-30-2021, 1:50 AM.Comment

This is a good lead in.
What hearing protection do you wear?
Getting a little older and having tinnitus, I am more frequently wearing foam ear plugs and ear muff's. Since brakes are common now, from AR's to bolt guns, I find I need extra protection. They definitely cause me to flinch more, especially when there are a number of them on the firing line, under the awning(I mostly shoot Sac Valley).
FWIW, been shooting for 50 years. And listening to AC/DC...

Have never used it, but always thought the Ruger Precision Hybrid Brake looked efficient. They claim "as much as" 58% recoil reduction.

I wear 33db plugs and if things get louder I put on ear muffs over the plugs.
All guns will damage your hearing without using proper ppe. A brake doesnt really change that.Comment

I agree with you; just curious what others are using. I'm more sensitive to it now, and have been doubling up ear plugs and ear muffs.
