A bench makes a great long range shooting platform. I can also recommend a couple good rifles.

Buy a typical Mosin Nagant, spend the rest of money on authentic span can ammo and associated range fees..

.300 PRC is apparently good, but if you just want to hit steel at a mile, it's unnecessary. 6.5 PRC or 7mm SAUM is probably fine, it just won't clang as loud.

If you want to be a cool kid into the future, maybe see where the .300 Norma goes. It's a new cartridge for the military, but the upheaval last year doesn't make it easy for a new cartridge to hit the market. But I haven't seen any rifles chambered for it unless maybe you want to spend a pile for a Barrett MRAD.
