Not if he shoots something like 6.5 Creedmoor. Factory ammo is very good and if he doesn't already have reloading gear he's not going to shoot enough to make it worth buying.

Just a 10x? Mine is a 16x, but I haven't used it yet. I've shot at 400 at 5x and it seemed adequate.

I absolutely love Tikka rifles. They use Sako barrels and the actions are super smooth. You can get a Tikka T3x CTR for around 1k. I literally just bought a Tikka T3x Tac a1 in 6.5 creedmoor and used to have a T3 Tactical in 308.

I am on the same boat as getting a short-action Remington footprint rifle. So, OP, among your choices, Bergara. I can't speak for the Tikka and the Savage as I don't have experience in those. Your choice may depend if you want to eventually compete or shoot regularly, or if it is a gun you'd just occasionally shoot at 1k.

I shoot 1k occasionally. I just got back to it last weekend after 2 years! I used to do it around twice and sometimes more a year.

I have the popular 29663 (Remington 5R 308) that can do the 1k job with surplus M118LR ammo. Replaced stock with KRG Bravo; net cost $1000 without optic. Put an SWFA 12x fixed scope on it and 20MOA one-piece scope mount.

I have a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6 creedmoor that I got on sale for $750 a couple of years ago from Sportsman's. I have a discontinued 6-24x Nikon Black FX1000 on it. I reload ammo for this.

The Remington action is way smoother to run; the bolt slides like it's not there. However, the 6 creedmoor shoots flatter and has less recoil although that could be the brake on the RPR.

Google Ruger American Predator budget build and you'll see lots of it. Under 1k for the whole package, will work for the occasional 1k shooter; but if you plan to compete, then maybe not.

For scope, if I am building a budget rig for 1k, I'd have the Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24x on the top of my list. FFP with same reticle as the PST for $400, that's a heck of a deal!

EDIT: Oops did not see the part where OP decided to hold off.

Those preinstalled factory scopes are only bore sighted by technians on tight schedule. Best you can do is get it on paper..

I purchased from someone. Not a factory scope

Which rifle is that, OP? I don't believe you've mentioned it. Looks like a nice rig!

What was the distance on your targets?

When I received my Savage M10 (.223) scope (a Nikon) combo, it was factory boresighted. I did a few test shots at 25 yards and it required further adjustment. Next, I went out to 100 yds and got it dialed in. It will shoot 1 MOA at 100 all day when I do my part.

So this is a Bergara B14 Hunter. I picked it up on here for a good price. It came with an Element Optics 6-24 SFP scope.

Did the Rube Goldberg "Barrel-Kool" fan come with it?

Got it..my mistake for thinking it was a combo package. How do you like your Bergara? Does it meets subMOA accuracy?
