While I am ambivalent on the W’94 I absolutely love the W’92... and I am about to bring home a Marlin 336 Texan SRC (straight stock). It doesn’t have the sheer allure of the Winchester but it is a far easier action to maintain, and it is a pretty minty piece made in 1968, a zenith in the period of western-themed television dramas. So there’s that.

I handled a Miroku '92 a few years ago and was astonished at how smooth the action was. Shoulda bought it. I do have a Rossi '92 in .454 Casull which is okay but fairly crude in comparison.

Shows like "The Rifleman" put straight-stock lever actions on the map. The toy companies went wild with plastic replicas.

It's interesting you mention that. Although my favorite lever is Sav-1899, other favorites of mine were influenced by TV in the 1970's

But only because we have seen more Winchesters than Marlins in western- themed motion pictures. Even then, many should have been Model 1873s...

That depends on the rifle, stock, and how it fits the shooter.

If you shoot a Win 94 carbine with the short straight stock, it will generally have more felt recoil. Move to a longer stock with a bit of drop and a long octagon barrel and there is less felt recoil.

Go to some of the Marlins which have different stock profiles. Or the Savage 99, which has different stock profile.

A .357 lever gun is a magical thing, but I do love my Marlin in .44 Magnum!

Have you removed the plug to check it out ?

No I haven't, but I suspect it's because it was a low round count gun. Still needs to be broken in.
