308 barrel length?

theLBC, I also thought you’re posting your target/group shot at 1000 yards. I did not want to bring up having suppressor attached, just assumed you were out of state. I have 2 rifles in 308 Win, an AR10 20” 1-10 twist and a Rem 700 PSS with the slower 1:12. The shorter barrel result in slower velocity, unless you have that magical fast barrel. It’s hard to hit with the 308 at long distance with a cold bore unless you have your hardware dialed in and you’re shooting where dope is collected.

If your barrel can’t keep that 175 SMK supersonic at 1000 yards, good luck hitting an IPSC size silhouette at 1K.

rather than basing my opinion on my own shooting at 1000 yds (or lack thereof) i was going with publications by "so called experts" and postings by experienced long range shooters. i have read several articles or reviews with the authors claiming decent results @ 1000 yards.

Tactical Life got a sneak peek at the 20S and shows it running steel in the below video, with Dave Bahde saying in his review, “Moving to 1,000 yards and dialing in the elevation, I managed to get eight hits out of 10 shots on a 16-by-12-inch steel target—as good as it gets for a 7.62mm NATO designed as a purpose-built precision rifle.”

i did not think to consider all of them may be shooting at high altitudes. this guy is just using the stock flash hider (no can for his test).

if i based my opinions for every gun on my own skills, they would all be crappy

I have shot my AR Variant 308 with a 16 medium weight barrel out past 1000 yards using my 4X ACOG
Hirtenberger 7.62 x 51 NATO 147GR. Non-corrosive, sitting position, non-slung -200' below sea level in the rain at dusk while tripping on a peyote / mushroom combination. Very pretty colors from the vapor trails all the way out to who knows where but I think all were hits somewhere. - If you believe this - I have property for sale in Death Valley - cash only / no credit.
