2. It might be damaged not intentionally, but they do not want to admit because
a. they think the UPS will cover it.
b. not to loose a customer.
3. One of the client's accidentally stepped on it.
4. One of the new employees accidentally stepped on it
5. they might be envy of you having such a rifle and they don't LOl...

There are no miracles and i doubt UPS broke it and changed the box. They just do not carry.

Never said it was repacked, and how do you explain the UPS 'possible damage' tape on the end of the carton?? That only occurs during shipping...

The butt end of the white box has collapsed. It doesn't have to get completely mangled to transfer energy to the rifle.

It was more blown out than collapsed, and very little at that...

I have worked for USPS for the past 15 years and my specialty is dealing with all kinds of issues and have never seen nor heard of anything being repackaged.
It sounds like your package fell apart went to the dead letter office and what was left was placed into a box for forwarding to you.
They do the same thing with damaged letters.
You get a new envelope containing all of what they could find.

It had a blowout on one end and there was a handful sized bunch of brass missing, tape over the hole, and several pieces of brass between clear tape and outside of the box, plainly visible. I found it pretty amusing. My local PO is pretty used to this stuff from me...

A buddy who worked for one of the big shippers once explained to me why you should never ship anything of value during the holiday season.

The workload increases exponentially during the holiday season, with everybody shipping gifts back and forth, jumping on Black Friday deals from internoogie retailers, etc. The shipping companies hire a lot of seasonal help to help with the heavy load. This seasonal help gets the heavy lifting, crap jobs that the permanent employees are too important to do.

These seasonal employees have no stock in the company, they don't care about the customers, and they tend to be less-than-highly-motivated folks, else they wouldn't be working at a seasonal, grunt-level manual labor gig for minimum wage.

Guess who gets to suffer for their frustration?

Working at UPPs in my early years, the employees chuck them boxes like a football. Doing the 6 side check the box gets spun quickly and thossed on the belt loader. It doesnt damage the box, but the stuff inside does get rattled. So, maybe the wood stock was already weak from start and the thoss gave it enough to break it?

I do this for a living and USPS doesn't repackage stuff.
If your poorly packaged item falls out of its packaging they collect what is left of it and send it to you.
That isn't repackaging but you wouldn't understand what the difference is so I won't waste my time trying to explain it.

I had a rifle delivered years ago that showed up with a cracked buttstock. It was well packed and the box was in good shape. After looking at it for awhile, it looked like the buttstock nut was a little over-torqued during installation (we all know tighter is better), and a good jolt during shipping was probably all that was needed for the stock to crack. It was a lot easier to just order a replacement stock set than to deal with shipping the damaged rifle back to New York; especially after passage of the Safe Act.

I thought that at first, but it doesn't explain the undamaged carton?? It had to have been out of the box... Besides... I didn't like the stock all that much anyway... :-)

I'm just having some fun with you lynn jr, unfortunately my uncle works for the United states post office for the last 40+ years and yes they do get repackaged all the time especially during random inspections. Most people will say it never happens but it does more then not. Maybe you never observed this going on if you are working the front counter or a delivery driver.

I take it you work at a first class facility. At the BMC/NDC they don't repackage things but there is a rewrap unit for packages that have busted open.

I'm out due to medical reasons but January 2017 will be my 21st year at the L.A. NDC (formerly L.A. BMC).

I've see all types of things happen with packages in our automation and sorters.

Well it looks like UPS stands by their insurance. Got a call from the seller and he stuck a check in the mail from UPS this afternoon. Only 2 weeks from the time of delivery, and about a week and a half since putting in the claim. So no griping here.... Now I get to hunt for a nice chunk of walnut.... :-)
