Picked up an FN Mauser from a dealer in Colorado. It arrived via UPS, along with two others from Wyoming Monday morning, and I received a call from my FFL with the good news and the BAD... When they checked out the carton they found the Colorado gun in two pieces. The butt had been completely busted off the action at the grip. The 'Shipping Gollilas' had struck, big time... The gun was well packed and the same gun that was pictured by the dealer. The carton showed no evidence off gorilla prints. After looking at the remains I decided to keep it, and restock. The parts were worth more than the whole. So no telling WTF happened?? The dealer has already started a claim, but I'm not giving up the gun. Hopefully they'll listen to reason and pick up the tab for another stock....??

Obviously the only plausible answer is that some anti-gun UPS workers that don't like you very much and detest your having a gun shipped pulled the gun out of the carton, broke the stock, urinated down the barrel, put a 'big brother' tracking chip in the recoil lug, filed down the firing pin, neatly repackaged it, and continued shipping it.
It's the only logical explanation.
Or maybe the tape on one end of a poorly taped box was subjected to freezing cold temperatures, failed, and the rifle slid out landing on the butt and breaking the stock.

LOL.... :-) Thanks for all the suggestions on the cause. Pissin' down the barrel was TMI....
The gun was packed very good. I've received others that weren't even close. The pic below shows the case being the same length as the box so it didn't have enough room to build up steam and blow the end of the box out, but it did. Like I said... Gorilla Power..

Really shoulda been some more packaging so that it wouldn't even move in there.Comment

I have had to ship expensive electronics equipment(oscilloscopes etc).
That picture; that soft case in a cardboard box is definitely not good packing. It should have been in a better case, with more packing foam or snap packs around it.
I would have a serious talk with the shipping company. But I would also have a serious talk with the person who packed and shipped it.
Even a Plano or a Caldwell cheapo case like this would have been better...

I've seen guitar necks broken like that. It just takes a drop, or a fall, at the right height and angle to do it. Note that it broke in the thinnest area.If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth. - Ronald ReaganComment

OK time out. I appologize for not posting more pics, but as far as the packing being inadequate, it was inside a padded gun case, inside an OEM Kimber shipping box, inside a shipping carton. The void between the inside gun box and the shipping carton was packed with heavy wadded up wrapping paper. So I'd say right off hand that it was packed pretty damned good. The curious thing about it is the shipping carton shows possible damage on one end, and the Kimber box shows just a bit of blowout in the corner of one end. Neither box shows any other damage?? I would have liked to be a fly on the wall when it happened... :-) Strange....
Maybe an anti-2nd amendment left wing liberal took the gun out of the carton, grabbed it by the barrel, beat the stock against a steel post, then repacked it, and made it look like the thing busted out of the carton.... ????????WITHOUT THE 2nd THERE WON'T BE A 1st...]Comment

When I'm having a rifle shipped to me, I have Amazon send an inexpensive Plano hard case to the seller. The $25 shipped (if you have Prime) has saved me some headaches.
