Have not checked on the new ones but MVP where wood stock!

Mossberg had bad luck with plastic stocks on the 4x4 rifle. I was really surprised to see the Patriot Rifle with a plastic.

Not sure the MVP is considered an accurate rifle by precision standards.

Tikka has a better action over the Remington.

Remington 5R - if you get a good one, it's a crap shoot at times will be a tack driver, lots of stock options etc..

Howa- no real good experience with them.

I personally would stick with the Remington, or go Tikka and have it rebarreled with a heavy barrel down the line. Their actions are good.

I'm running a AAC Rem 700 with a heavy 16" barrel 1-9 twist and it runs 55-75grainers accurately. I never ran it in the Hogue stock or factory trigger. It resides in a Choate Ultimate Sniper stock with a Timney trigger and JP brake. I built it to get my kids and wife to shoot more which it has considerably as it's laser accurate and no recoil.

Its a Patrol MVP, 16.25" barrel. Total length is just under 36" collapsed. I don't know the weight, but it was around $1000, could probably get it cheaper if you find a better deal than I did on the MVP. I had some extra AR parts and took an optic and bipod off my AR.

It has an ALG sidewinder brake on it, and LSS Chassis.

I have a Tikka kin .243 and like the way it shoots, so I just bought a Tikka T3 lite in .223.
Like cars and fashion, everyone has different tastes, wants and decision criteria. Best thing would be to shoot a few. If you can't do that, get your hands on them at the store.

On average a Savage is going to be most accurate because of the floating bolt head. I picked up a cheapo Axis on BF for $350 and a $50 rebate, It comes with a cheap scope and accu-trigger. It has a 1 in 9 twist. The cheapo Remington 700 has a 1 in 12 twist.

There's a youtube channel where a guy puts $500 into an Axis and shoots a 600 yd match with it.

$450 - Howa 1500 20" heavy barrel. Note, your not paying for a stock that your just going to throw away.

No to put down the guys that own a Mossberg, but those guns are not known to be accurate target guns. The Howa (or a Tikka) would be a much better choice. Also it is 1:9 twist, but you'll be fine shooting the 68/69 match bullets out to 200-300 yards. Hell for 100-200 yards, a 55 grain FMJ will shoot decent.

Agree with your choice, if the OP wants to save $$$ get a BC stock add a Timney trigger and use the savings on match grade ammo.
Looking at a Howa action in 308 as well but I do have a Manners stock already to drop it into, my Vanguard 223 varmint shoots 1/2 inch groups with the right ammo so would think the Howa would be similar.

For an out of the box, reasonably priced shooter, it's tough to beat the mini Mauser action on the CZ527 Varmint.
