Wrangler's Rule #2 in buying a scope: Always buy the highest quality you can afford. Scopes can live decades over many rifles and still be accurate. Wrangler has many decades old scopes that are obsolete but because he broke the bank when purchasing them, they still function as new.Comment

Yeah, it's not common for folks to shoot a 700 with iron sights. In my opinion, the rifle is really best set up with a scope.
But, there are economical iron sights for a 700...

I would check out the Athlon scopes.
The "Cronus" model would be in your range and is supposed to be awesome.
I do not own one and I have never even seen one. Just going off what I have read. However, I would check them out if I were you.
