First bolt action what scope should I buy?

This will be my first bolt action, turners has the Remington 700 sps with a 20" barrel in 308 on sale. I have around $1500 to spend on a scope and rings. This will be used for tin cans and paper from 200 to say 600 yards.
What would you all recommend?

Take $400 off what you want to spend on a scope and apply it to a 24" barrel. Also, search this forum as your scenario has been discussed many times (with good info provided). Many valid opinions/advice offered - you'll have to decide what works best for you.

If you have that much in your optics budget, do yourself a favor and skip the SPS line. Get a Police/Sendero/5R model. You'll get a slightly longer barrel which is good for the longer distances and you'll get a usable stock. The stocks on the SPS line are just packing material. If you get the SPS, be ready to drop $250+ on a stock. If you plan on switching to a different stock/chassis anyways, then the SPS is fine.

For optics look at the Vortex Viper PST's or Burris XTR II's. Both are great scopes right in your price range.

I would get the sps varmint and a xray chasis with a vortex viper

I would do this as well. I recommend the 5R and then a vortex or Bushnell.

Great option for only $715, leaving you plenty of change to buy a scope and it is ready for a riflescope out of the box. Perfect to punch out to the distances you are looking for. I particularly like this model because it has iron sights as well

Yes, I'm getting the 700 sps tactical, I have around $1500 to spend on the scope and rings. I'm at a cross roads between a vortex viper and night force shv.
