*Update* Custom 6.5 Creedmoor Build, Input Needed

Just not understanding why a build would take 8-10 months

When you commission a rifle with a builder that is sourcing all the parts, he is ordering the barrel and stock from the manufacturers, not from a reseller.
He gets a better price from the manufacturers, but the wait time for barrels and stocks can run 6-8 months.
He is not going to buy from resellers as that cuts into his profit margin.

You can source the parts yourself from resellers who have stuff on-the-shelf, but then you are limited to WHAT they have on-the-shelf.
When parts are ordered from scratch, you can have it EXACTLY how you want it.

Getting stuff from the manufacturer has proven quicker than I thought. McMillan had my stock done in just over 3 months. Bartlein barrel took 1.5 months. Action took 4 months. DBM, trigger, scope, etc. are all off-the-shelf.

Smith will probably take 3-4 months. But because he is a one-man shop and he's probably in high demand. Lots of people in line ahead of me.

Barrels are often made in batches by caliber.
So a barrel maker might cycle through 22's, then 6mm's, then 6.5mm's and then 7mm's and then 30's and then bigger stuff.
They let the orders build up for the next cycle.
If you happen to put in an order for a caliber that is either currently in production or getting ready to be in the next week or two, the leadtime CAN be short.
However, if they were following the theoretical schedule above and you order a 22 while they are making 6mm's, it's going to be a WHILE before they get back around to doing 22's again...

Where are you finding Mausingfield actions that cheap? They are $1600 from the manufacturer. My Defiance action was considerably less than $1300. But I guess it depends where you buy 'em.

Longrifles quoted me $1400 or so for the Mausingfield action. Where did u find a Defiance action for less than $1300?? I got mine from Bugholes.

Ah, I guess we are both guilty of quoting prices from a builder and not direct

But whether it's $1400 or $1600, the Mausingfield action seems like it's worth it. I don't think it would necessarily be more accurate than any other action. But it's impressive nonetheless!

8-10 months?! Sheesh. Now, I've waited a long time on custom firearms but geeze.

From what I know, stocks are always usually on backorder. It's been nearly impossible to get a quote on a Manners for a 338 I'm sourcing to build... their best bet is 6-12 months.

Have you looked at other builders? Received different quotes? I would recommend shopping around. There are so many GREAT builders out there that are willing to work with you and give you a great price: GAP, Accurate Ordnance, AI, Stuteville, Short Action Customs... All makers who have had rifles testing on in the field or on the PRS circuit.

I think the two things I would change on your list is to get a better action like a defiance or gap action. And my choice on a trigger would be to go with a Timney Calvin Elite.

Also, if you're wanting an HS Precision stock from a Remington 5 are with the aluminum bedding block, PM me about that because I would be willing to let mine go for a really good price

I'll read about the Calvin Elite trigger, looks like it's only about $50 more. As for a custom action, it's about $600 more which is really pushing the price too far. Call me crazy, but I'm happy about the long wait as I get to make payments over the 8 months, it works out really well in my case.

I do not mind waiting for my 6.5 Creedmoor Spartan Precision Rifles build. I retired and I like the extra time you have to pay it off. Now I have to submit my Veteran discount to Vortex Optics and I will be save more money. An 8 or 10 month wait is Ok! for me.

Anyone interested in getting a veteran discount from Vortex Optics, just give the a call. The discount is better that any other vendor. Their discount applies to a Law Enforcement, active Military, and Veteran. By the way I am retired Army.

I do not know if any other scope manufacturers offer any type of discount like Vortex. I wish they had this discount when I got a scope for Gap Crusader and my Gap 10, each have a Vortex Razor HD Gen I EBR-2B

Yes, Marc's work at Spartan Precision. Nothing but good things to say about my experience! It did take a little over a year before I had a finished rifle. From what he said the action from Defiant is what was holding everything up.

Very nice work. I was just talking with Marc last week, great guy. He barreled my stiller/bartlien .375 cheytac project. He shoots PRS too, has an Army M24 background.

What kind of contour is that on the barrel? Looks almost straight bull barrel?

Its a Bartlein M24/M40 contour. Kinda middle of the road weight wise, I do wish I went a little lighter but I can always get a second rifle built if I want light weight.
