You Better Brace Yourselves For A Whole Lotta Ugly Comin' At You From A Neverending Parade Of Stupid. -
If your going on the cheap just get the smith to do the threading and attach to your receiver. You just give them the barrel and the action. Bartlein in stock at bullets.com, you can order it and have it in a few days. Any caliber.
Doing the stock work is fairly straightforward, lots of videos on bedding. Order the stock with the bottom metal pre-inletted.
It's true if you use a smith you can have a precision rifle for around the same price as a "precision" factory gun. The difference is that the Bartlein barrel is about 10x better than a factory chromo POS.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. They usually don't have anything in stock, they almost always make to order. They say 8 weeks on everything and every ream, gauge, and tool I have ever ordered comes in that time frame. A huge percentage of all reams and tools come from them in the custom world.
Horrible customer service? Compared to what, the Apple Store? These are not consumer products.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. Why? Unless the complete rifle is cheaper, just buy the action. Your going to throw away everything with the possible exception of the trigger and the factory bottom metal.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. Well, compared to any other business in this industry.
If they tell me all my parts are there minus just the action and boxed waiting for me, they shouldn't tell me that they're waiting on the bottom metal and mag when my action shows up. (Never mind they had a sale the previous week for bottom metal and mags because of over stock).
As a customer, I shouldn't have to remind then three and four times that they shipped an order missing pieces.
I should actually get a call back when they say they will call me back.
I'm sorry that you feel they can do no wrong, but there are plenty of people angry at them for their action combos and failures to perform. You Better Brace Yourselves For A Whole Lotta Ugly Comin' At You From A Neverending Parade Of Stupid.Comment

You can buy an action with a trigger for $400 or so from Brownells? At least you could a couple of months ago when I bought mine from GrabagunComment

If you use PTG, if they don't have your part in stock on the line ready to ship, you will be waiting an unknown period of time of at least 3 months if you are fortunate. But, their stuff is good. For starters, just get an entry level like the Savage or Ruger and patiently build your rifle just as you want when you figure it out.
As far as factory ammo, your best bet seems to be the 140gr A-max. But, as with all cartridges you should buy a couple boxes of a few different labels that will be readily available and see what shoots best. Then, buy it in bulk.Comment

Pacific Tool just opened a second shop and they are going through some growing pains.
I have ordered two reamers and a small quantity of small parts and it didn't take more than 3-4 weeks on anything.
On there custom actions taking 8 months that is faster than most but they shouldn't have told you less time regardless.
I don't know why people in the Firearms industry have such a tough time giving estimates but most seem to suffer from it.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

McMillan quoted me 16 weeks, and I was totally fine with it.
If PTG had said 8 months at the start I wouldn't of had a reason to complain, however at that point I probably would of gone to some one elseYou Better Brace Yourselves For A Whole Lotta Ugly Comin' At You From A Neverending Parade Of Stupid.Comment
