Glock 42 trouble first range visit

I'll give the loaded mag trick a shot. The first round would get held up sometimes as well from an open slide.

The G42 my wife got has been great for her and for me, no malfunctions other than with an attempt at a very light load (2.6gr Titegroup and 100gr xtreme FP) which didn't quite have the power to cycle the slide properly.

My wife is still working on perfecting her grip but has had no issues including one handed. My wife's sister-in-law really liked the little Glock when she saw it so they got one as well. She is a tiny little gal approaching 60 years old with hand and wrist strength problems and nearly zero shooting experience. Hers has had zero issues as well. When we got her started shooting it she was having visibly excessive movement of the gun in her hands, but still no malfunctions. Both guns have been fed wolf 91gr steel case, handloads, and assorted other ammo.

I guess what I'm saying is that with what I've seen from from the two examples of the G42 I've worked with, I don't see how limp wristing could be the issue, especially for a man.

I read a review where the author figured out the G42 needs at least 190 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy to cycle properly. It seems a lot of bulk ammo being sold out there is less than that. So he recommended Geco ammo because it has 204 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy. I bought a bunch based on his recommendation, but haven't had a chance to test it yet to verify his theory.

The G42 also seems to be very susceptible to limp wristing in my experience. Men usually don't have a problem, but women do.

I put 300 rounds through mine last week and only had two FTF's, which were easily cleared by racking the slide. I was using cheap aluminum Walmart FMJ. I believe the two failures may have been a combination of "limp" wristing and tight springs in both the slide and magazine. Both FTF's occurred in the first 50, or so rounds fired. Gun functioned flawlessly for the other 298 rounds. Haven't tried any JHP's yet. That is reliability defined in my opinion. Love the gun.

I had the exact same issues with my 42. I was super bummed and shot a couple hundred rounds through it, hoping it was just a break in period.

Turns out 2 weeks with mags loaded fixed everything. I just shot 200 flawless rounds at the range the other day.

For reference my born date was November, I have 4 mags, two without markings under the part number, one with a 01, and one with a 02.

Edit: I also installed +1 magazine springs (http://gallowayprecision.com/glock/g...for-glock-g42/) on the two mags without markings. They both needed to be loaded and sitting as well, but now work perfectly (and I have an extra round without changing the look and feel - yay!).

My wife's G42 and another friend's G42 have had the mags loaded for over 6 months and both guns still malfunction about every couple mags. That's why I decided to try Geco ammo.

I need to check into those springs to get the extra round.

The 380 is just as easy to load as anything else so long as you can reliably throw those small charges. I went to the middle of the Lee book (2.6 - 3.0gr, I went 2.8) for titegroup and a 100gr boolit and it was a sweet load first try. Later I made up some at 2.6 and it was a bit to light for the gun to cycle reliably.

I'm torn because when I squeezed the heck out of it the gun functioned. But I also experienced similar issues noted in article. Are these guns more sensitive to limp wristing than say my G20 or XD9?

Also, it even struggled feeding the first round when releasing the slide a couple times.

I don't think they are more sensitive to limp wristing, I think it's actually that people are more likely to limp wrist them. The smaller, 2 finger grip requires some adjustment. Not that it needs a death grip but a slightly different method. Work with it for awhile and you'll find what works. Friend of mine found her best solution was to hold her weak-hand index finger on the front of the trigger guard.

Speaking as a reloader, I think that it would make it MUCH easier to wind up with ammo that functions 100%.
