Glock 42 trouble first range visit

Hello... Took my new Glock 42 to the range yesterday and had difficulties with failures to feed and extract right from the start. Both mags and both Magtech and PMC factory rounds.

    Pistol was cleaned/lubed as recommended.

I managed to get 150 rounds through after struggling mightily with the first 50. What seemed to help the most was gripping the pistol very tightly.

Any suggestions? Is this common and should I expect this for a break in period? My Glock 20 was perfect out of the box (with no death grip, yes I realize these are two different animals).

I would leave the mags loaded for a week to help them set.

I would also suggest not loading the magazine to capacity while shooting.

If that doesn't work, quit limp wristing.

Haha yeah I needed a serious grip to keep it cycling. I'll give the loaded mag trick a shot. The first round would get held up sometimes as well from an open slide. Seems way to delicate (finicky?) to be a Glock.

I suspect your problem is that your magazine spring is still a little tight. Once they set, your problems should be reduced.

Whenever I deal with magazines that are 10 rounds or less, I always leave them loaded for a while and then when I take them out the first few times, I download by at least one until they can be fully loaded by hand without struggling.

Since there is not much area to grip, you may have to alter the way you hold it.

Sure your fingers aren't hitting the slide stop? Any mods to the magazines? Pinky extension? +2 magazine floor plates?

I only had the issues describe when I added the +2 magazine floor plate. After few mags it was fine.

Factory six rounders were fine with flat magazine plate.

            Stock mags, no mods.

Just shot mine (my wifes) today for the first time. No problems at all shooting a mix of Remington, Magtech, PPU and Freedom Munitions FMJ as well as a couple of mags of JHP HydraShocks.

Is yours a newer updated model?

It appears Glock has quietly modified several internal parts on the new G42’s rolling off the line. This may be to address feeding/ammo issues that have been

What is the born date of the Glock 42, and do you have the updated mags?

This is interesting stuff. The mag release has the '- 1'. The mags appear to have different part numbers on them. One says 33249 02 and the says 33249 01. Assuming those are part numbers (my g20 and g26 don't have any numbers on the mags).

The casing package says 10/21/14 so it is very recent.

I'm torn because when I squeezed the heck out of it the gun functioned. But I also experienced similar issues noted in article. Are these guns more sensitive to limp wristing than say my G20 or XD9?

Also, it even struggled feeding the first round when releasing the slide a couple times.

My friend had a bit of trouble shooting his but I shot it without issue. It might be the smaller size needs some getting used to.

The slide has to move in relation to the frame. Larger guns have heavier frames, helping the slide move in relation to the frame. Small guns have light frames and have to be held in place for the slide to cycle in relation to the frame.

If you let the frame move, the slide will FTFeed and FTE.

You don't have to hold the gun tightly, but you do have to keep the frame from moving.

Try racking the slide about 300 times.
