Recommend a .44 mag?

I'm seriously considering buying one as a range toy. Can someone recommend one? Unfortunately, the only .44 mag I've fired thus far is my dad's Colt, and the chances that I'll find that in a gun shop any time soon in my area is quite low (plus the price tag for one I've seen online is a bit of a shock lol, for a used firearm)

So I'm looking for some more....common, I guess, recommendations. What handles well; what's well built. I'm familiar with what manufacturers have models in production currently. But like I said, I haven't fired any. Don't worry I'm not going to just go buy one on recommendation, but I'd like a place to start when I go to rent.

As far as personal preference goes, I'd like large frame. As large as possible actually. I'm equally open to single and double action revolvers. I'm open to used firearms, so it doesn't have to be currently in production, only commonly available.

Python only comes in .357 Magnum never .44 Magnum. That being said, I like a Smith and Wesson 629.

The Python only came in .357. Maybe your dad had a Anaconda if it was a Colt. Most common choices out there are three S&W 29 series if you like blued, 629 if you like stainless. Someone mentioned the 329pd, but it's a very light scandium framed pistol designed to carry a lot and shoot a little.
The Rugers are beefier if you want to shoot a LOT of magnum loads.
The Colt Anaconda is going to be tougher to find and cost 2-3 times as much.
If you want a semi auto you can pick yourself up a Desert Eagle in .44

Sounds like you want a revolver. If you like large frames, the Desert Eagle can be an excellent choice - BUT you really need to be a reloader to leverage what a DEP brings to the game..

Redhawk with 5-1/2" barrel. Or the four inch, which was impossible to find a year or so ago.

And seriously consider taking up reloading. Otherwise, it is an expensive cartridge to shoot and you will not experience it's diversity.

your idea of a range toy is funny. Range toys should not hurt to play with but I guess that's just my idiot idea of fun not hurting.

Double action .44's are vastly less comfy to shoot than single actions. I'd recommend a single action which basically says Ruger Super Blackhawk. The grip shape lets the gun roll back in your hand and soaks up a lot of the hit. The Super Redhawk was 20x less shootable to me.
