1911 on 45

Howdy!

I have been lurking here and learned a lot on this forum. I have been thinking of getting a 1911 on 45 Caliber. This is going to be my first 45 Caliber. There are so many choices to choose from and it's really hard to decide on which one to get.

If you're only allowed to own one 1911 45Caliber on a 5" barrel, which one would you buy and why?

Colt 1911, What's more iconic?

There are so many choices and so many factors. Price being Cheif among them. My favorite top of the line 1911 is the Ed Brown Special Forces. Extremely well made. Accurate as can be. Family owned company and the are good friendly people. The price tag is hefty but there are more expensive ones out there. All of which are wonderful guns. The next step down has a laundry list of amazing 1911s in it. Too many to choose a favorite from. I'd happily own a good 100 of them. My choice was recently made for me. Got a Sig Sauer TTT Promo model for Christmas. really nice gun in the $1000+ range. If you want to spend a little less I like the Para Ordnance guns. You get a lot for the money and the triggers are more like something you would see on a gun that costs twice as much. Kimber is nice. Used to own a Custom II and enjoyed it. for the money it was great. I've never owned a Rock Island but everyone I know who does enjoys them. It all depends on how much you plan to spend.

Just saw your budget that you posted while I was typing. Lots of amazing options in your price range. It is all going to come down to personal preferrance.

In your price range, there's quite a few choices.

Springfield Armory MC Operator, TRP, or TRP Operator.

All of the most common upgrades, factory installed, at a decent price (in your budget).

While most here are loyal to a brand, you'll seldom hear about actual problems with these guns and SA Customer Service is great.

I own Colts, Kimbers, RIA, Custom Shop, and TRP's. If I could only have one 5" 1911, it would be a SA TRP. IMHO

To make it easier on you, if you only look for 1911's that have a beavertail and front strap checkering, then you will probably find what you are looking for.

It is best to buy one with everything you want now since upgrading later will be costly and ultimately not worth the time and money.

TRP, without hesitation. Because it's the best pistol you can buy for $1,500, and it's the only 1911 you'll ever really need.

That's pretty funny, those are the first four I owned and in exact reverse order from what you listed. I think $1,500 is a sweet spot for 1911's and these names will come up often and there's nothing wrong with any of them. My Colt is near and dear to my heart but the Springfield TRP I have is probably the best of the bunch as others have said here.

I actually now I have five, I just bought an S&W PC1911. Very sweet but it's a 4".
