In my defense, we've progressed quite a long way since 1911, correct? Maybe JMB wasnt' able to hand checker way back then.

I'll rephrase my original statement as I have thought about it and deemed it negative to those that own smooth front strap pistols.

"I personally would not own a 1911 with a smooth front strap, my hats off to those that would". How was that? I'm trying not to be such an a** on CG this year.

I bought a Kimber Warrior II. I love it but I wish I had the TRP.

Any reason in particular? Been looking at both the TRP, the Warrior II, and TLE/RL II (as a cheaper option) as possible rostered purchases this year.

OP, consider a Springfield Loaded 1911.
It doesn't have the checkered fronstrap but you can get that done and still come in under budget.
The Loaded model has most of the bells and whistles folks want on a 1911. they have decent triggers and good sights. I suggest you handle the TRP a lot if you are thinking about buying one. The checkering on that frontstrap is very aggressive and may become unpleasant to shoot after a hundred or so rounds.

I intentionally ordered my Les Baer with 20 LPI FSC just like the TRP's have. That sucker is never leaving my grip

After handling the TRP at my LGS and feeling how aggressive the front strap is, it's making me think twice about buying it. A little less sharp would have the same grip and be just as effective. I guess it takes getting used to. It would be nice to shoot a TRP first and then decide between the two.

Yes sir, you are right about the aggressiveness of the TRP's front strap. Once the adrenaline is running through your veins, your hands don't feel the sharpness of the 20 LPI, that's just my opinion though.

If you were up north, I'd let you shoot my Baer.

The problem is that most folks will be doing a lot more target shooting than "Action" shooting and when those serrations start wearing your hand raw, you are not going to want to shoot that gun as much until it ultimately becomes a safe-queen.
Blumtly, most of us are office-types without a lot of callouses on our hands. This matters when handling that TRP or other aggressively checkered guns.
Buy something you will want to shoot again and again. $1500 is a lot of money to blow on a gun you won't enjoy shooting.

Sorry, I assumed you meant action shooting such as 3-gun or pistol matches. I just don't know anyone who gets their adrenaline pumping just shooting at the range, but Its a big world, YMMV. I also think you have it backwards as folks are less likely to notice that checkering in the warm and cozy LGS because they are not handling that TRP under recoil. It's a whole 'nother animal rocking in your hand 100-200 times. FWIW, a local gunsmith Don Lazzarini, was telling me he gets lots of requests to fix or tone down the checkering on TRP's. I owned a TRP a few years back and after 2 days in a class at Front Sight I was done with it. Give me 30 LPI any day
