Not sure what you mean by large capacity. At this stage, Perhaps a Thompson SMG style handgun would not work out for you.
Most every handgun I like in .45ACP, is small capacity. Including this nice NIB Glock in stock right now (but not for long) at mparms
Seems like another USP threadComment

I should have added that my wife's go-to firearm is a P220. It is a single stack gun by design and it fits her female hands very, very, well. But she's 5'8" so it isn't like you'll need to worry they'll be too small. Though a buddy's hands are even smaller and he's going to try the E2 grips.
The Sig P220 design is a robust and famous design. I have a brace of Sigs with no problems. I often wonder if the comments you read are the same incidents repeated on various web forums over and over and over, bias against current ownership, or simply user error.
But everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, makes a turd from time to time. Given the other makers you listed I would consider Sig a premium brand and would be flabbergasted to see real numbers that proved the P series guns have more problems.
I find the gun a soft shooter, as does my wife. The controls are in logical positions and are easy to operate, as is the slide.
And I am very high on its DA/SA operation for a self-defence firearm. It is, in my opinion, well worth the time and effort to become proficient with the DA-SA transition and, yes, I always begin with the DA shot. People steeped in years of using striker fired pistols often report struggling with transition. My suggestion for shooting in general is to become proficient at shooting a DA revolver. I think it makes shooting everything else easy.

My advice - go to the gun store, range, and/or friends and try as many diff .45 as you can. also, don't forget big names that we may not normally associate with .45acp handguns. ex ruger sr45. or a .45acp revolver if that is what you shoot best.
i've shot most of the above mentioned and a few others and i like 1911s and large frame CZs/clones the best. If I had to go poly, it'd probably be a M&P45 or USP 45. none of these are perfect though, there are things i'd change about every single one of these for a HD gun.
With that being said, I am a big CZ fan, but would not recommend the 97b for HD. It has trouble feeding various types of jhp rounds. Yes there are ways to fix this, but they are more bandaid type fixes given the design of the barrel. If you really like the 97b though, I'd recommend a tanfoglio witness elite (two tone).Comment

I scored a mint German 220 (97) for under 800 today out the door with less then 300 rounds fired by the original owner. I purchased it locally under consignment and it didn't count as a SSE.
This Gun Broker auction ended without a bid and it looks to be in great condition. From looking at the right side of the barrel block, you can tell it has been fired very little.

I'd get the full size USP .45 it's a excellent firearm. I recently purchased one from budsguns.com for $785.00 now you can get the $200 rebate so that would put you at $585.00, that's an excellent price for a high quality German made pistol!Comment

Thanks. I'll sample the SF/gen4 if available. I know that affordable/sensible in a firearm is first priority. At least it should be for me. I just like shinier things.I'd say HK USP45 but if hands on small side it's a pretty large handgun. I remember when shopping for my first handgun the 1911 just felt much more natural to hold. But same as Glock 21sf, even the sf version I found the grips quite large but nothing can't get used to. If you owned a Glock 17 before and used to the striker fired manual of arms, yes, maybe Glock 21sf might be the 'boring' choice, but boring can be good for HD gun!
I have mostly 1911s for my .45's but also a Glock 30sf and thinking of adding a 21sf gen 3 just , well, to have it, cause I'm a gun addict.
Gen 4 Glock 21 can also change grip size and use what feels best to you.
Man that looks nice.
I guess just the name means it speaks for itself. Thanks.
Thanks.
I don't think I have a preference. I shot in over ten years. I gave up my guns when my 12 year old was born. L on my forehead. Maybe less capacity will fit better. And for trigger action, I feel like I can spend the time/money learning it. Thanks. If you want a full ten rounds a pistol designed I'm double stack would be advantageous. I too enjoy the xd45 especially the tactical model. If you want a 1911 hard to beat the ria tactical. I enjoy mine immensely. The p220 is a great weapon if you get an older one but has about the same capacity as the 1911. If you like all steel construction and are able to find one the cz97 is a great pistol. I couldn't find one so i bought an eaa witness match. You should specify what trigger type you prefer (sao or da/sa) and capacity preference. That will help others with suggestions.
Thanks. It was always part of the plan. It probably should've been before this post. Would've saved everyone a lot of time.
The XDm looks nice. It looks more appealing than the XD. I'm going to look into that exact config. Thanks and will definitely report back.I had a Springfield XD45 with 4" barrel about a year ago, sold it to another forum member. It was a good gun and plenty accurate.
With SSE coming to an end, I picked up the newer XDm 45 with a 4.5" barrel. It has a match barrel and should be a lot of fun to shoot. Unfortunately, I can't get it out of jail for a couple more weeks.
OP, lots of options out there, let us know what you go with.
See? Analysis paralysis.
Now I have the proper perspective.
Wow. That may be the winning ticket. I hope the range has one. With the $200 rebate HK is currently running, I would think the HK45 should fall well under 1K.
If you're looking for a smaller gun, the USP compact .45 is another option.
It seems like if you've ever wanted an HK, now would be the time to buy one with the rebate going on.
I just checked Budsguns... the HK45 is $1002 and the USPc is $864. Both come in pretty well under your 1K limit after the rebate, in fact you can get tax and DROS too.
Thanks for the heads up.
Great advice. Too much reading for sure.
Thanks.
Thanks for the link. I appreciate it.CZ 97 B .45 acp 01411 in stock @ Oakhillguns.com
Sorry for the mislead. I meant it to read not compact. Not sure what you mean by large capacity. At this stage, Perhaps a Thompson SMG style handgun would not work out for you.

I have no experience with others that you mentioned except Sig P220. Mine is all stainless and will never give this up. It's almost a safe queen!

less capacity single action ria tac or springfield armory loaded. da/sa p220. out of all those Id probably take the loaded. although you will be able to find it after sse is over so sig p220 then loaded in the cg marketplace

My vote goes for HK USP 45, or a USP 45 compact... and lastly an M&P45Comment

It helps alot. Thank you. I had plans of going as budget as possible with the RIA. Then my wife mentioned to me that I should buy once - within reason - and that I deserve it. I love her! That's when my thoughts went straight to the 220. It checks all the boxes for me. The the ana/paralysis kicked in and I read about some QC issues. Still a tough choice but I think the 220 is the front runner now.I should have added that my wife's go-to firearm is a P220. Thanks. The M&P is sort of a mystery to me. It's hugely popular and yet I'm just not drawn to it - like the XDs. I'll definitely have to try one. Maybe the CZ is something I can try down the road. Thanks for the Tangfolio mention too.My advice - go to the gun store, range, and/or friends and try as many diff .45 as you can. also, don't forget big names that we may not normally associate with .45acp handguns. ex ruger sr45. or a .45acp revolver if that is what you shoot best.

I cannot deny this any longer. What makes it the buy already gun for you?
