I don't care about magazine disconnect. Too many people sweat that for no real reason.
That loaded chamber indicator though is a good reason to get it in before 2015.

I keep seeing this but I kind of have my doubts. Lets think about some of the main pistols that are carried by law enforcement. Glock is probably the top of the list for the last 10 or so years with S&W and Sig close behind. Glocks dont have magazine disconnects, and to my knowledge never have. M&P line, have they always had the Magazine Disconnect or are the majority sold in/were sold in California? Same with Sigs, dont they make a Mag Disconnect version for the Cali Market?disconnect (as well as a manual safety) can be useful too. there was a report or study i read somewhere about many officers/LE getting into a scuffle with the bad guy/s where flipping on the safety at the last second or dropping the mag kept them from getting shot with their own gun or bought them enough time in the moments the bad guy had to fumble with their gun for officers/LE to take proper action. all the while, the same report didn't show any recorded or reported incidents of external safety or mag disconnect getting any officers/LE killed. firearms w/o a disconnect or manual safety did get turned on the LE/officers in a few instances though. of course, this will inevitably vary for someone carrying openly that society knows/expects to be armed vs a "random" carrying concealed that, at least theoretically, no one should know is armed, although i wouldn't be surprised if some of the LE in the report were in plain clothes during their incidents.
So unless they are cherry picking for that study, I cannot see how some beat cop in Atlanta or some podunk sheriff in Bayou Labatre is using a pistol armed with a Magazine disconnect and had their lives saved by it. Another great example of a pistol without a disconnect is the M-92/M-9 Beretta. LAPD used these for a while, where are all the stories of Mag disconnects saving lives?
Back to the Shield, I have a California Version with the Mag disconnect removed. I am ok with that and understand that if I had to use it to defend me or mine "the Prosecutor " could try to say I made the weapon more deadly. But at that point I am already at the mercy of the courts in a state where self defense is not a given right."You see in this world theres two kinds of people my friend. Shield remorse.. Wait maybe not..
My wife owns a Shield 40. She's frustrated with the mag disconnect. But she'll get used to it.
As for all the LCI haters, if you want to see an ugly LCI, look no further than the Ruger LC9. Fugly!
As for the hatred and feeling of being baby sat by the Gov. I felt the same way until I looked at it from a different angle. Ever go to an indoor range and notice all the bullet holes in the partitions? I'm thinking I like the LCI for the idiot next to me more and more. Maybe that nanny devise will help keep me from stopping a bullet from an inexperienced shooter standing a mere 3' from me.

The data just isn't there. The data is there on cops that have been shot with their own weapon.
The biggest difference I'm given to understand is holster retention systems, so anyone trying to take a gun is going to have to take it out of the hand.
All I have heard is second hand anecdotes that mag disconnect makes a difference like that.
Where I do think it will make the most difference is in ND's... a lot of (duty and otherwise) weapons "go off while being cleaned".

Hmmmm. From my learning the self defense laws in California are fairly good. I think the problem depends more upon where you are... and by extension where the jury is pulled from.
No matter how in the right I was, I wouldn't want to have a case in front of jury taken in Sacremento or L.A.Host of the FAST OC podcast.Comment

Obviously, I don't know why she is.
But if you shoot three gun, IDPA, etc., when you are done you drop your magazine, you "show clear" to the RO, you then release the slide and pull the trigger while the barrel is pointed down range. You pull the trigger as a final step in showing the gun is absolutely clear of any ammo.
With a mag disconnect, you have to reinsert your mag before you can "dry" fire the gun.Certified Glock Armorer/NRA Certified Pistol Instructor and RSOComment

No. You can see it in the sight picture if you look for it, but it's in-line with the front sight and isn't as tall, so it doesn't block anything. You can always file down the nub that rests on the case if you want it to not stick up as far.Comment

I told her to get used to the trigger. Feel when it breaks, hold it and slowly release to feel the reset click. Yes dry firing it. So like mentioned above, every time you must reinsert the mag.

Actually a lot of people have been shooting steel matches with CCW guns for practice since LTC's in CA was opened. My last few times out our 3rd, shot a Shield and the guy we got paired up with the match before I believe was shooting a 26 or a 19. Both from IWB holsters for the practice.
I'll be doing the same. Best kind of CCW/LTC practice IMO. Not like I'm setting records or winning matches anyways. Might as well make use of the stages. That's half the reason I started shooting matches anyways for SD movement gun on training with out having to pay some tier 1 operator $500 a day to yell at me and teach something he read off the internet or pulled MagPul Dynamics DVD set.Last edited by CK_32; 10-07-2014, 10:43 AM.Comment

Why not just insert the mag and leave it there?
If it's about slide lock, don't rack the slide so far back. You only need a little to reset the trigger.Comment
