being around for a lot longer does a 1911 no justice. I would never use a 1911 for self defense, they are not reliable. it really depends on what kind of 1911 also.

Also I would take the Glock because it's just a Glock, guns like 1911's I get attached to(mostly because I work on them myself and do a lot of modifications, so each one is somewhat personalized) and I would be upset when it was taken if I had to use it, a glock I would just buy another glock.
Exactly what he said! Glocks are a dime a dozen. Reliable and replaceable. Id hate to have a Wilson, Nighthawk etc. taken if used.

1911. Gotta do it in style. Glocks are so gauche.

                Glock. Because I don't have a 1911.

Neither, and I have several 1911's. My choice is a S&W 442 with a laser grip, loaded with 125gr XTP handloads with Titegroup, a low flash powder. The last thing I want in a confrontation is to go blind and deaf, which will probably happen anyway, plus recoil plays a role in my choice. I would rather hit someone with every shot.

I already have problems sleeping at nights. The idea of having a rock island armory 1911 on my nightstand, I'll never get any sleep.

Go with the gun you shoot the best. I care more about my life then I care about a gun ending up in a evidence locker. If my $1500 1911 gets taken away then I'll go buy another one. My families life is worth more then the price difference of a nice 1911 and a glock.

It's not the gun, it's the man behind the gun. If you think it's the gun, you're not man enough to be behind the gun.

If neither is an option, than either may also be an option.

                            Either.

Each represents to two primary guns I have chosen to shoot most often and really get to know over the course of 30 years. So switching between the two is of little concern or that I need to take sides and depict one as better than the other.

It is like jumping between a car with an automatic transmission and a motorcycle, for me, which I also do quite often. In this case, the 1911 would be like the motorcycle, with more diverse ability for input on behalf of the rider, allowing for multiple "conditions", and some levers and shifters to mind, while the Glock is like a car with an automatic transmission that once hot, you just step on the gas pedal; you still need to know how to steer in the corners, brake, and guide each vehicle, while aiming both with proficiency, but each has their benefits with little downside at all; just a different ride.

I love 1911s, and for any device to go more than 100 years with no true significant change to its basic design, and still be a best-seller and primary-use items, is testimony to the 1911 itself. Can you imagine if the Model T when introduced had all the horsepower, design, and capability of a 2015 Corvette Z06 and was also a "hybrid" design getting 60 miles to the gallon with little room for improvement over the course of 100 years other than adding nice interior perks and electronics?

But I also think Glocks were one of the most amazing firearms to come along since the 1911 itself, in both design and simplicity, and were it not for dirty politics, would likely go as many years as the 1911 with its design. Glock set the bar for what a modern firearm should be, and dozens of guns based on its principles have followed.
