I'm thinking Remington 870 shotgun, .357 magnum (s&w), a pocket gun (ruger or beretta nano, glock 42).

I'm leaning towards the shotgun as I already have two semi-auto handguns and a marlin .22 rifle. The only reason I'm not too keen on the shotgun is that most ranges in my area allow shotguns, but you must buy their pricey shells.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

An 870 was the 1st gun I ever owned..Got it when I was 18...Still have it (I'm pushing 60 now).Its been bird hunting,Skeet shooting and has sat under the bed for a defensive Gun. Its had different clothes for different roles. I say get the shotgun.

How about an M&P semi auto. They are very reliable. I think we can all agree on that.

Shotgun + AR lower.

Not sure about 870 prices, but you can get a Mossberg 500 combo with two barrels and a lower for around $400 +DROS + tax.

Getting back to the program : That LC9 looks pretty amazing. I already have a 9mm, I'd like to broaden my horizons if you will. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of S&W, the shield looks something in my price range.

Although I'm a shotgun fan, you cannot go wrong with a .357 magnum. It is versatile; shoots .38 spl., .38+P and .357 magnums. It comes in 6,7 or 8 shot capacity levels, many barrels sizes, finishes and some models have a pic rail attached.

Haters can chime in but a .357 revolver will serve as a hunting, plinking, SD and HD weapon more easily than many semi-autos.

And, if you reload you're not picking cases up off of the ground. Yep, that matters to us old folk!

Finally, don't discount the Rugers (GP100 and SP101) as their quality, fit and finish rival that of S&W for less money.
