The kahr tp9 is super slim and holds 8 rounds in a glock 19 height with same barrel length. It is a true single stack 8. If you staggervit and increased the width a hair you could get 10 but it makes it wider.

Kahr has a full size CT9. I think it will only 9, tho.
Yeah, I read there are issues with the higher capacity
      Single stack 9mm mags.
The m&p shield supposedly has a single stack.
      I've got one . It's more like a 1.5 stack.
Not a true skinny single stack.

Because it'd be long and pointless.

So we have P239, compact but full hand grip, 10 round mags, 9mm, what others are there?

(also if you want to drop 2 rounds you can go .40 or .357sig)

Some of the full power .357 sig loads pack a punch.

Some police trade in 9mms where a local shop and I didn't want them because they are all double stack. The point is when you CA guys get use to carrying all the time, the 10 round thing is a mute point. Not that I like the restriction at all, but carry and stand your ground are the biggest things.

I totally see the desire for a single stack 9mm pistol. But i don't see why that would have anything to do with magazine capacity. If you were designing a pistol I don't think it would make sense for you to make a decision about mag capacity first and then build your pistol around that, rather you would build the pistol to the right size you want to market and then see how many bullets you can possibly fit in that size. a manufacturer is going to squeeze every bit of mag capacity they can into their pistol... the fact that California lawmakers arbitrarily picked 10 rounds as the magical number that a gun is "safe" and 11 "dangerous and illegal" should not really factor into the design of the weapon, which is why i suspect you don't find too many pistols with exactly 10 rds mag capacity and if you do i suspect it's just a coincidence.

anyways i don't know if you are specifically looking for polymer or metal but the standard Rock Island Armory 1911 in 9mm comes with 9rd mags

I looked at several compact 9's and settled on the beretta nano because it prints less and was easier to conceal than a higher capacity or other 9's in that space.
                I appendix carry.

I also carry an extra mag (or two).

Agreed. In my case, it's a matter of concealability, not legal magazine capacity.

I've got one of these here in 9mm, after working out a few bugs, it runs just fine.

The new HK vp9 looks promising given why you're looking for. Not sure if it's single stack, but with the p30 like ergonomics, a lot of people will tell you the p30 is the most ergonomic pistol they've held and the vp9 should be no different.

I carry a shield 9mm which I'm sure you've considered... 8+1 but probably the closest proven pistol you're going to find

There are plenty of single stack 9mm out there. Unless you want to extend the grip to be stupid long and make the 10 round mag flush fit, what purpose does it serve? I have a CW9 which is a 7 round magazine. Even the 8 round mag extends well past the grip. Single stack pistols are nice for concealability, but the length of the grip is also what makes it easy to conceal.

There are PLENTY of single stack 9mm pistols. But making the grip long enough to accommodate the 10 rounds would just look goofy and be difficult to conceal.

Look at the Kahr CT9. Full frame single stack 9mm. 7+1 capacity.

It can be brought in to the state as a C&R

Because why would someone want a pistol that holds 10 rounds when you could have one that holds 15-17-18-20 rounds? Most of the country has the ability to buy standard capacity magazines.

That being said 9mm 1911's, S&W 39xx's, SiG p220/210, list goes on... Are amazing handguns.
