why no 10 round single stack 9mm?
There are and were a bunch of outstanding 8 round, true single stack 9mm's available. HKp7, walther p5, sig p225/p6, p210 and p239, s&w 3913 to name a few. My guess on why all of those held 8 rounds instead of 10 is simply size. The 8 round mag and grip size complimented the overall design of the handgun. The grip and mag could have easily been lengthened by the designers to have a flush fitting 10 round mag, but they chose to go with 8 to get a desired grip length that was in proportion to the slide length. Jmo. There are no feeding issues with the above mentioned firearms either despite them using a true single stacked magazine. In fact, even the p7m13 which uses a double stack mag terminates at the feed lip area to a single stack type design. Staggered rounds into single file if you will.

Ooops, sorry folks, I c&p the wrong link. Here's the link to that article: http://www.shootingtimes.com/2014/03...9mm-cartridge/
So my understanding is that most 9mm magazines for 10 or more rounds are not really single stack, they are staggered-column. Shorter mags, like the XDs 7-rounder, can be single column. I never had any feeding issues with my XDs, but I only shot ball ammo so far, no hollow points.
Again, this is just my understanding of what I've read or heard so far, I'm by no means an expert in 9mm Parabellum cartridge

One problem is the length of a single stack 10rd 9mm mag. It is very tall. I took a quick picture to illustrate this.
Below from left to right are: LC9 7-rd mag (true single stack), Beretta 92 neutered 10-rd mag (double stack - should hold 15), 1911 7-rd single stack mag, and a Star Firestar M43 10-rd extended single stack mag which predates any capacity bans, so the only limit was how long they could reasonably make it. Note how much taller than a 1911 mag it is. Also note the plastic base is not adding any length - it is more of a gap filler (that still didn't fill the enormous gap when inserted); the actual steel mag body goes all the way to the very bottom of that base.

Here is the 1911 mag sitting on top of the 10-rd single stack 9mm mag with the bottom insertion stops aligned:

that is an incredibly stupid statement
there are several reasons to want a single stack that have nothing to do with CA's stupid laws...width and magazines that arent hard to load are two that come to mind for me...maybe this is a range toy OP has in mind where capacity doesnt matter
there are plenty of folks in free states who choose a single stack for one reason or another...how do you explain that? is our stupidity leaking across the country infecting and indoctrinating those who have no clue what laws we in this sad state must abide by?Comment

OK, this isn't a single stack so technically off topic, but its thin, compact, and holds 10+1: http://www.sccy.com/products/cpx-2-cb-9mmPooty Poot, you sure screwed the pooch this time! - Ghost of Roza Shanina, WWII Soviet SniperComment

I'm not sure I understand your POV here. Seems to me that the issue with a single-stack 10-rounder is that it would be quite 'tall' or 'long' and poorly designed to add yet more rounds. That is, most of the country supports a standard round count greater than 10 so why build something just for CA that is more limiting? If that was done then you could properly argue that the 'small round count' legislators were winning in this regard. As things stand, I don't believe that the absence of such a design is an indication of anything on the legal front. It's just seems like an answer to a question that no one is asking.
That said, I do have an old H&K P7M8 with a (8 round) single stack 9mm magazine and it is a very nice handling design. But that design packs so many good things in to it that the magazine is just another in a raft of great features.

I have handled a 9mm single stack 1911 before. Its not that tall at all. If its a home gun or owb holster for competition like say IDPA, who cares if its slightly long. I do like thin though, thin is good, max capacity is good as well. If I wanted short and stubby, G26 all the way.Comment

Would a full size 9mm benefit from single stack?
The LC9 is a 7 shot magazine.
The only reason why I like the design is the overall size.
My hands fit the Glock 17/19/34 just fine.

I don't see why a narrow pistol that is full size in lenght and height has an advantage for use or CHLRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
