Glock Plugs, Unnecessary?

I just purchased a Glock 17, and immediately ordered myself a Glockmeister Plug, and Talon Grip. I figured those were two things I should put on first...

I've read and read through arguments about the plugs for glock, (after I purchased one), and it seems split right down the middle.

However, one point I read that seems to have given me a little buyers remorse, any part of Glock design, is there for a reason. IE, there is a reason that it was made with the "drain hole" behind the mag.

How do you feel about plugs for glock?
Necessary? Or Not?

Still going back and forth, about if I should plug my Glock when I go pick it up, even though I already purchased a glockmeister plug

If they were "necessary" they would come with them.

They are cosmetic, some will say they are detrimental as they block the egress of environmental contaminants.

My feeling is in normal (non police/military) use they are harmless. Maybe even in extreme environments, but I have no firsthand experience with that.

If crap gets into the channel, the bottom opening lets it fall out...

Not only are plugs unnecessary, there have been reports on here of frames cracking because of plugs.

A Glocks frame is meant to flex when the gun shoots, change things up with a plug and your asking for trouble.

Don't be stupid, don't use one in your Glock.

I have one in my G17, that said I didn't install one in there for about the first 6 years I owned it. I saw one at the gun show and bought it to try it out, my guns aren't exposed to harsh environments that would require drainage, and if that were to happen I'd just pop out the plug.

I am sure that the folks that developed and made the plug, as well as the store that sold it are pleased that you feel it necessary. If you are concerned that you may be blocking the “drain hole” to the rear of the magazine, I do have one question for you. How often are you planning on doing a beach assault, or walking through a swamp with your glock on your hip?

Night sights and that's it on my G19 that I carry.

Some people say the hole is to allow debris to fall out.
Some people say it lets debris get in.
Some people say it's to make it easier to strip out a stuck mag.

I think it's just another doodad they make because a lot of people will buy it .. and they do.

I don't understand why people assume the hole is for drainage. It's there by design to allow you to get a thumb-grip on the magazine in the event it gets stuck in the gun. It's a remnant from the 1st gen guns when the magazines truly were non-drop-free.

When I had a 17, I had a rear grip plug and loved it. It really channels the magazine insertion better. Note- I sold the 17 only because of the fat grip, but loved the Glock over all.
