With that budget, I recommend getting a two 1911s.

I assume you are new to 1911, so the following will be base on that. If it was me, I would get a Rock Island GI or Tactical and then a nice 1911 like Les Bare.

The RIA would be good to tinker with so that you can learn the platform. Would not be nice to put an idiot scratch on a $2K new 1911.

But, your money, so spend as you like

Im also no expert however I am Filipino which makes me genetically drawn to 1911's hence I have a few. Like everyone has already said to you; your budget should avail you to the better 1911's in the market. With that said, I don't understand why RIA and a Springfield GI was recommended to you since those are inexpensive entry level 1911's and you can do far better. I started with a Springfield Loaded Target new for $1200 (My avatar pic) and the rest are all Colts from various era's. My suggestion to you is to pick up a Colt 70 Series pistol, their value continues to increase and they are simplicity and elegant all in one. Yes the Dan Browns and Wilson Combat's are precise shooters but that means you have more chances of jamming after shooting lots of rounds in between pistol cleaning because the guns are made so precisely and the barrel to slide fit is tight. This is why the Colt 70 Series is my fav... its got a slight wiggle to the slide which lets all the gun parts move enough to be accurate but without jamming the action. All 1911's jam if your don't keep up with cleaning but the tolerances are better with the older Colts I have found. Just my 2 cents from a guy previously in your shoes. Ive shot Wilson's, Kimbers, Springfield's which were all great guns but in the end...the older Colts is my 1911 of choice. Good luck with you choice and let us know what you end up with! Cheers. I once walked into my lgs and couldn't help, but notice another customer and his wife looking at a beautiful 1911 Wilson Combat; can't remember model. Struck up a conversation with the gentleman who was in the process of purchasing the 1911. Found out he special ordered the pistol and waited almost 2 years for it to come in.

Anybody care to guess how much the 1911 Wilson Combat cost......? Anyone....?

If I remember correctly, the Wilson Combat cost $4,600 or $4,800....
I have to admit though, that Wilson Combat was the most gorgeous 1911 I have ever seen. The fit, finish, slide, barrel, even the grips were just gorgeous.

A few weeks later I run into the same guy with his wife at a gun show here in Fresno. He was looking at some antique pistols with some kind of magnifying glass. Spoke with them for a bit and found out the couple owns a car dealership.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share my story with those who'd be interested in hearing it.

As a guy who generally prefers Glocks when it comes to semi-autos the most enjoyable 1911s I've shot have been from Kimber.

I had shied away from the 1911 for my first purchase. I made the mistake of handling one at the lgs one day out of curiosity. It ruined me. There is a reason that they've been around so long and continue to be so popular. I didn't have your budget, but I decided to not spend a ton, but still get something decent so I bought one used. It had a couple thousand rounds through it and it was already idiot scratched so I didn't have to worry about that. I love it! One day I'll upgrade to a nicer model, but for now my SA 1911-a1 is perfect. My humble opinion? Don't blow your load on the best that you can afford. Get something nice, but without all the buzz. Enjoy shooting it and decide from there if you really want to sink $2000 into a 1911 or spend less and build out one of your AR's, since you already "know" that you like that platform.

Or go for it! You only live once and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. You can always sell it if you think you want something else.

My Springfield 1911 Loaded in Stainless is my first handgun I ever purchased. It definitely has spoiled me in the handgun realm because there hasn't been another handgun that had such ease to shoot and such and amazing trigger. Speaking of the trigger, the 1911 trigger is the gold standard of good triggers in all applications aside from duty carry and concealed carry firearms. The weight of the firearm is definitely heavy, but that is a proponent to negating perceived recoil in the .45 ACP, making the 1911, even though shooting a rather large caliber, much softer than even some 9mm pistols I have experienced in the past.

Highly recommend everyone own a a 1911 at some point in their life as there are a lot of guns that try to be one, but always fall short in one manner or another. There is no firearm that is perfect for every situation, but with the downfall of the 1911 being size and weight, as a recreational gun, all other firearms sacrifice more important characteristics like accuracy, trigger weight, ergonomics, build quality, sight radius, and customization.

there are 2 handguns that EVERY gun owner should have. one is a glock 19, the other is a 1911

im certain it isnt on your silly little "roster" but the TISAS 1911 from buds is WAY undervalued. we ended up getting 3 of them

First handgun purchase was a Kimber TLE II Stainless, definitely worth the money and it's been a great handgun.

If I was going to purchase another 1911 and it wasn't Kimber it would most likely be a Springfield Armory of some sort, Sig would probably be #2 on that list.

Really if you can go handle a few and see what you like, there are a million options for them so you really can't go wrong.
