Colt Python Shooter or Safe Queen?

Python owners, how often do you shoot your Python? Most of the Pythons I see in the market place are in excellent condition with with low round counts. A couple of Python owners I spoke to say I only shoot it once or twice a year. So how often do you shoot your Python? Is the gun a shooter or more of a collector's piece?

Everyone has their own preference but for me, my Colts are pure collector pieces that I do not shoot at all to minimize deterioration. I'v shot them when I picked them up over 15yrs ago but will not shoot them now or ever.

Only shoot it 2 or 3 times a year. Got 4 S&W .357 & a Ruger GP100 I can shoot. Most of my shooting is with my automatics.

I shoot a pair of Pythons almost monthly in competition.

I wouldn't buy Safe Queens, but if I magically had one, I'd probably leave it in the safe, since I have plenty of other things to shoot. Hey, it's mechanical art!

I usually shoot at least one of my Pythons whenever I go to the range. The two Pythons I've owned since new have more than 50K rounds through each of them and still going.

When someone's collection reaches dozens of rifles and pistols there comes a time that just about everything becomes a safe queen at some point.

I'm looking for a Python and it will not be shot all the time because most of the time I practice with the pistol I compete with.

Pythons should only be shot on days that end in "Y".

Does it really make sense to buy a gun and then not shoot it? A well made gun won't break with any but extreme use. I say shoot it and enjoy it. That's what guns are made for. You hang art on the wall.

I have a stainless steel 4" Python that I shoot monthly. Sometimes fairly heavy handloads but always magnum loads. Never had a problem with the gun in 10+ years of owning/shooting it.

I have a safe full of NIB Pythons that I will never to shoot. They are investments and seeing how Python prices are going these days I should have passed on the Apple Stock and just bought Colt Snakes!!

I think I'm going to start selling paintings of Pythons for people to start hanging on their wall so they can sell those safe queens to people to use them for intended purpose.

Yea, if I ever get one I would like to shoot it. It'll be easy track down all the brass for reloading. All my guns get their turn at the range. When something doesn't get time it's time to sell.

Now what's a fair price for a 6" blued python? I've seen them listed for $2000-$2500.

I have couple of pythons as part of my snake collection that I never shoot nor has it ever been fired. I keep it this way because these are family heirlooms.

I also have 1 python that I shoot to death. luckily, it has not broken on me yet even with factory loads.

in general, I consider pistols as a poor investment including the colt snakes. there are a lot of colts in the used market (especially calguns) that are over priced and usage understated. buyer beware.
