From the Baer, any out of the box colt is a downgrade. With SA, I'd say you need to go TRP or PRO otherwise you'll likely notice way too many things lacking in a regular production 1911 coming from the Baer as your litmus.

Colt vs Springfield Armory

This is just it. The reason people sometimes choose Colt over Springfield. Colts are the original and nice to look at and are good guns, however, Springfield is higher quality. If you want a gun that is made in America, go TRP or Professional.Originally posted by California44I think Colt would be my first choice, then later, the Springfield. I was 'this close' to getting the XSE as my first gun until I purchased a consigned super-tac LB. I later purchased an older Colt Gold Cup National Match. Nice bluing, old school look with some upgrades over the original. I don't own a Springfield but will probably some day. Lots of Calgunners recommend the Springfield I think because you get more for you money than a Colt roll mark. But I still prefer Colt since its the original.Comment

It's a nice gun. The satin finish is beautiful and the gun was well put together. The barrel lock up and slide to frame was tight and didn't rattle much. There was some play in the trigger but broke cleanly at around 5-6lbs. I sold it because I'm not a fan of stainless steel on semi autos. If you can get it around $650 it's a great buy but if you pay over $700, I would pay a little more and get a Sig XO. I had a Sig TacOps that just felt awesome. It was fitted extremely well with a nice trigger. The XO is pretty much the same but without a light rail, magwell, and ambi safety. I sold the TacOps to fund the Baer but I miss the TacOps a lot. As a railed 1911 goes, the TacOps is a great buy. Only thing I didn't like were the small thumb safeties.Comment

My only 1911 is my Springfield MilSpec, so I would say Springfield!Comment

Not sure if this matters too much, but the steel Colt XSE would either be blued or stainless (I think the aluminum Commander can be ordered with a Cerakote), and the SA would come with the Amory Kote finish, or stainless. Unless you were going to send which ever one you purchased out for custom Pakerized coating.
I have a Government XSE and a few SAs (TRP and Trophy Matches). They are both excellent production pistols. I think you will be pleased with either...get both.

Sigh...
Any of the Springfield custom shop guns ARE NOT MADE IN BRAZIL. The friggin US Government says so. The fact that they use Imbel forgings does not mean the finished gun is made in Brazil; more than half of the machining is done in the US. Do you know where the steel used in your Ford or Chevy was made?
If they were made in Brazil they would have to be stamped "made in Brazil" ; they aren't."You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"
"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"Comment

What am I missing with my TRP. It seems alot of calguns places it on a pedestal, don't get me wrong it's a nice production 1911 that does what it's designed to do. But really it's just a fancy loaded with aggressive front strap checking and the word tactical put on it. It is pretty much the exact same gun as my MC OP minus the obvious. I think because it's on the list and so many Californians have it, it's reputation has far exceted reality. I find it amusing when it's mentioned along side the PRO as if they are close to being equal.Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.Comment

Springfield imports every single product they sell, their Brazilian 1911s , their Croation XDs, and their Korean M1As

If I were you, I'd add another layer of tinfoil to your hat.Sigh....so now you believe everything the government says?
Somehow, I was under the impression that all the final machining, hand-fitment and assembly on my Professional was completed at their Custom Shop in Illinois, but why would I believe them when I have you? Apparently, it was all done in Brazil. I must say, that was a clever and deceiving ruse on the part of Springfield.Springfield imports every single product they sell, their Brazilian 1911s
Yep, the same narrow-minded rhetoric you post each time a question about Springfield surfaces. You can dance around technicalities all you want...sighComment
