Yea your right. I didn't write my post very well. I meant I personally call firearm magazines "mags". However, a "mag" is an old school magnesium car rim.

True. Doesn't mean you are a loser to simply use the correct non lazy term that Barbara Boxer would use.

        This is a great thread.

I hate when people don't know the difference between a clip and a mag, or a rim and a wheel, or an engine and a motor, or a bullet and a round of ammunition.

The one I just don't get: The El Camino it is a car with a bed, so therefore it is a truck.

Do me a "solid" and call a mag a mag.

That whole "solid" slang term for a favor just irks me to no end, but that is going a bit off topic, ehh.

Exactly this in my case. I don't get jacked up about it, but I also can't take the speaker seriously on firearms or many other matters, especially any calling for precision in terminology.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

We called them Clips in Nam .. period. I'm guessing that it's a carryover from WWII with the M1 Garrand .. you reloaded with a Clip .. rounds being on a Stripper Clip .. just like the K98. I had twenty (clips) in base camp, or 5 when flying. A Magazine was the highly coveted latest issue of Playboy. Maybe I'm just too damn old to retrain to call them Mags .. but I am making an honest effort Essayons!

It's like the fight for the word "literally".

It's like those who misuse "there" "their" and "they're", you can't let it stand!

Honor demands someone without anything better to do must take action and correct them!

a word is just a word and the term clip being used to describe a magazine has been around for so long... much longer than gang bangers have been using it.... I don't mind either, I do recognize that magazine is the correct term but who cares... my military dad who's a Vietnam vet a lifetime Hunter has and always will use the term clip... he was corrected one time by a douche at the range who was eaves dropping on our group felt the need to come over and correct him.... we all gave him a dirty look and said thanks for the help buddy you can go away now... I really can't stand the people who feel the need to correct people they don't know on a subject that really needs no correcting.

one's use of the word 'clip' when referring to a magazine is not one of my personal pet peeves. someone that uses the correct word for 'magazine' when telling me i don't need more than 10 rounds in a magazine to defend myself... bothers me more.

just one of those widely mis-used terms...people say it, others know what they're talking about, and only a few get all bunched up about it (myself included). ...9.5 out of 10 times, it's a magazine.

"they've done studies you know....60% of time it works everytime" ...kind of like that

Finished cleaning my gun, asked my wife to pass me the magazine. She handed me the copy of Guns And Ammo sitting on the table.

I teach magazines and clips early for two simple reasons - if non shooters and new shooters understand the difference they will identify ignorant media for what it is when they see or hear it.

Second is because attention to detail is important, particuly with firearms.

I guess it's also ok for others to address your AR-15 or Mini-14 as an Assault Rifle or address your bolt-gun as Sniper Rifle, right?

Some people, especially Antis, will tell you that there is no difference between a Sport Rifle and an Assault Rifle, between a precision/hunting rifle and a sniper rifle, or between a pistol and a revolver because they are "Just guns used to kill people, who cares using correct term on them?"
Antis want general public be ignorant about guns, and indifferent to the detail so they can pass Gun Control on us.

I feel every time when I am deliberately using incorrect terms to address firearms, I am indirectly helping Antis to spread FUD.
Using correct language and terms not only help one looking professional, but also the image of firearm in general.
