I have been leaning towards the Ruger SR9, SR9c and the M&P, but I wanted the opinions from people who have handled different 9mm on what they felt was the most controllable. I have no bias to polymer or metal framed pistols.

Looking for a soft shoting, controllable 9mm

Well, I can recommend the Glock 17, but only because I have run about 70,000 rounds each thru these 2 G17's in competition.

Browning Hi-PowerYes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Generally, metal frame pistols will have less felt recoil and likely be more controllable. Basic physics: they Weigh more. This includes: Sig P226/8/9, Hi power, beretta 92, CZ 75/etc.Comment

1911 in 9mm or CZ SP-01 are the most soft shooting 9mm I've ever tried. Heavy pistol and low bore axis help to keep recoil flip and slow down the recoil impulse. I would think longer and heavier recoil spring would absorb some recoil energy so a full size, heavy pistol with low bore axis would help to reduce recoil.Comment

As stated any compact will have more noticeable muzzle flip. However I own a ruger P89 which is a heavy full size and a M&P 9c that shoots pretty easy to me. U actually think I can get it back on target faster than my ruger. Any 9mm for the most part is soft shooting IMO, to me that means I can go shoot several hundred rounds and not feel even the slightest bit of fatigue.Comment

Steel and 5 inch bbl. The lighter the gun and shorter the bbl, the more felt recoil. The more you shoot the softer it gets regardless of the caliber.Don't take refuge in the false security of consensus.
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.

I recommend a Berretta 92/re / M9
Good looking gun and almost no recoil. My gf enjoys shooting it and she's pretty small and petite

The only 'Real' safety is between your ears. I have run Hi-Powers in competition, and they don't compare to Glocks. And unless you have one built by Cylinder and Slide, they are pretty much crap.
How many rounds do shoot a year???Comment
