I recently purchased my M&P40 from Turner's Fountain Valley & have been going there for years. The only people I will deal with are Neil & Henry, both of whom are very nice & knowledgeable. The Orange Turner's isn't anything great. Ade's is a great little shop (very little). The prices are good on product & services. Fowlers/ Stockade are two places to window shop only & are to be avoided by those ready to lay down the dough.

I don't know what your problem was with someone working at Ade's, but I know both Jim and Andrew well and would say that your opinion is a very, very small minority.

Jim is the older guy, and Andrew is the young, big SOB with a shaved head. Maybe you caught someone in a bad mood, or unwittingly did something to upset one of them, but I assure you that they're both good people just like Ade.

And Ade's selection is fairly small, but it's not a place for window shopping. If you know what you want, Ade will get a price for you, and order it. He can get most anything without a problem, although you might need to stay on top of him as he's very busy and does sometimes forget to get prices for customers.

As far as Turner's is concerned, my general experience is nice people, but long waits because they're understaffed or the older employees like to BS forever with window shoppers. You also have a large number of window shoppers who aren't buying anything, but want to FF the guns (take a guess what FF stands for).

I did a PPT at Turner's in Signal Hill with a fellow CalGunner just a couple days ago. We had to wait, which is typical. The young guy who helped us was friendly, and efficient. I was the seller of the gun, and the employee asked if I was in their computer system. I said "maybe, I used to buy guns monthly from the Orange store, but that was a few years back and I haven't bought anything since". He asked why I stopped shopping at Turner's, so I told him. He was very nice, and made a serious effort to address my concerns. He also explained what they were doing at his store location to remedy some of those concerns. I was impressed. I won't shop there, simply because it's too long of a drive for me, but I wish the Orange store had guys like him working there.

Well I thought I was the only one on the receiving end of poor customer service at Turners. These stories are long but let's just say customer service is not their strong point. My second gun purchase from them on Friday went better, but that's only because I called in earlier and had them hold the gun I wanted.

Almost everyone there is a fanboy of something, and just promotes their brand instead of helping you find what's best for you. Their new gun prices tend to be great, but if you know a decent FFL you can save a few bucks buying online.

I'm going to have to disagree with SonyExec. Gunrunners has a very pleasant staff. They are also funny as hell and answered every question no matter how dumb it was. As far as pricing it was the best I found for my PSL.

+1 for J&J armory I got my lower there and it's freaking awesome. It was my first OLL store and every1 was armed very intimidating to the eyes but also a pleasant staff.

+5 for RifleGear because they had my upper when no1 else did. They were open on Dec. 26th and busy as hell. NO BS there. As soon as I got in the door I was out of there in 5 mins.

I didn't see Cold War Shooters up there anywhere. It's the only place I know that sells STG bullet buttons. My uncle bought his AK there and I plan on getting one from them also.

+1 Ammo Bros. for having a Socom II in stock and a mega selection the new location rocks.

Turners in Norwalk is cool. They are always busy when I go there. As far as the whole waiting thing goes. They are only allowed to have 1 rifle out per employee behind the counter.

+1 for Big 5 I got my Pump shotty and Savage 30-06 from there.

I think that every1 has different experiecnes but I'd like to think that all my trips to gun stores are good. I never go to a gun store in a hurry because there is way to much good stuff to look at. That's just my .02

I would go to all of these places again and I plan on it.

Ade's = Bought my Sig P226 stainless with night sights during the height of the gun scare/craze with Obama. Got it at a price that was 100-200 bucks less, last one. Been to this shop numerous times to just browse. Always helpful and friendly staff with the exception of maybe one employee.. but don't let that detour you from going here. Prices are decent all around.

Turners = Only go to the one in Fountain Valley. Most of the time they have some decent staffers. Every now and then you'll run into the young apathetic employee that'll still show you what you need to see. Bought my Ruger GP100 here for $500 new.

Field Time Sport and Gun = I really like this shop. It just opened recently. Prices are ok, not the cheapest, but so far customer service has definitely made me leave this place as an option to purchase. I'm willing to pay a lil extra if I get good helpful customer service. Last time I went, very good supply of ammo.. everything from 9mm, 40sw, and 45acp. Only thing I couldn't find were CCI Minimags.. but those are nearly impossible to find anywhere. Big store, very clean and they're opening in indoor archery range soon. Its in Westminster.

Grants (Boys) for guns in Newport = my friend purchased his XD here. Very chill laid back staff, was amusing to see the interaction between the youth and senior employees.

Big 5 = stop by here if you wanna get a standard shotgun or looking for old rifles like Nagants. They usually sell at near AT COST prices. My friend used to work there and he said they literally can't make the prices of certain firearms any cheaper because of what they get their inventory at... and yet people still come in and keep asking for discounts.

            Places I avoid now...
Stockade = very nice selection, but the prices are just bad. The employees seem to ignore me most of the time (except for the relatively younger dude with the 1 bad eye, he's cool). Everytime I go there.. I always overhear some FUD chit-chat going on amongst the older employees.. ignoring any customers that might need some help.

Fowlers = I know same owners as Stockade.. but surprisingly.. I get slightly better service here. Still not a huge fan of the prices.. but every now and then I spot a used gun thats well-priced. Still.. never had an urge to purchase from here.

Overall, low prices can be had at the used gun section on this forum. I've already made a very nice purchase from one of the outstanding members here.

I watched them sell a Sig 226 to a first time gun owner that had originally wanted a revolver.

"What you need is this $950.00 Sig P226, it's what the Navy Seals use, it is just what you need in your bedside drawer..."

                    Just *******s working there!
So true! I ordered my Henry AR-7 from them and they told me to call on a certain date to see if the gun was there, I called and they said they hadn't received it yet and that they would call me when it was there. A week and a half later the manager calls me and tells me that my gun has been there for about 2 weeks now but the clerks thought that they had only shipped the stock. Aside from the manager the knowledge that the rest of the staff has about firearms is laughable.

In the San Fernando Valley area I like going to Turners for ammo.

But for firearms I go to Fort Courage Armory in Simi Valley.

Great place, not very big but very very friendly staff.

I've been to FV Turners' quite a few times but now I'm done with them...Since customers are treated like they're not needed, do they still have a need being there? Nope I'm totally done...never will go back again, not this lifetime...Once in a while you'll notice some employees talking to customers w/ their pants way down below their hips

You would be better to post your own thread. I don't know why people pull up a thread that is almost 2years old..

This summer while purchasing a firearm i used this thread to find a good local shop. So I think its appropriate that I contribute. I've been to the ones in south orange county. From best to worst
OC Armory- Very nice store, nice atmosphere and feel. the transfer fee was 55+ $25 dros. the lowest price I found(everyone else wanted about $135 total). The employees were very nice and helpful. By far the best shop I've been to and I will continue to be a customer.

Elite Firearms- Very nice employees. wishing for better selection. Also have the very high transfer prices.
Saddleback- The most discouraging experience I've ever had being in a store. Whoever was behind the counter was an *******. I'm not one to get butthurt over little things but this guy just kept going after I brushed off his sly insults. I can understand if I was some strange kid asking for a full auto sawed off shotgun. I was a simple question of if he had a certain C&R bolt action rifle in stock. I will never step foot in his shop again.
