    Hey Welcome Jaybyrd724!!

I'm sure you'll get a lot of info from the others posting here in the thread later.

There used to be half a dozen shops within 5 miles of me, now it's just Turners, thanks to the pol-corr politicians.

The best shop in Orange county is Ade's IMHO.

I bought my HK USP .45 at Iron Sights in Oceanside, best price I could find locally. Nice guys too. I'm in South OC.

Just bought a Walther P99 from Grant Boys in Costa Mesa. I had to special order the AS trigger because they only had the QA but they've been a pleasure to deal with. I've also heard nothing but glowing reviews for Ade's in Orange/Tustin.

I'm going to disagree with quite a few of yours...but not with Grant Boys.

Horrible service at Saddleback Gun. Tried stopping in there once on my lunch hour, and the proprietor spent 20 minutes yapping with one of his buddies but didn't once try to help me. I walked out and won't go back.

Fowler Gun Room...worst prices around, except for powder (sometimes cheaper than Turner's). Rude salespeople (even by gun shop standards).

Stockade...same ownership as Fowler Gun Room (and same high prices), but not the same screw-you attitude. I'll drive a few extra miles to go to the Stockade instead of Fowler Gun Room.

On Target...limited selection, unlimited attitude from the counter help. The guy who actually owns the place is nice, but a lot of his help isn't. Prices are nothing to write home about, but not quite as awful as Fowler/Stockade.

Grant Boys...their in-stock prices are a bit steep, but their prices on special orders aren't much higher than Turner's standard prices. I've heard the usual gun-store B.S. from their counter help in the past (an AR-15 is a dandy deer rifle, a .22LR is a better defensive gun than a .25 ACP, etc.), but they generally have a friendly attitude.

Ade's...VERY limited selection, sometimes has some interesting used guns. It's just kind of...weird. Ade is a nice guy, but...it's just kinda weird, for reasons I couldn't quite explain. You've got to wait for him to unlock the door for you, which I find a little odd. Others may feel differently.

Haven't been to J&J Armory yet. Are they in the same location as Cliff's used to be?

It's out of the area, but King's Gun Works up in Glendale is nice. Stiff prices, but good selection and very good service. The wait can be a little long on the weekends, because they're taking their time with the people in front of you. Top-grade gunsmithing available on-premises, too.

I really miss B&B. A couple of other decent O.C. shops have gone out of business in the last 10-15 years, too...like Arrowhead Sports and Gold Coast.

If were buying a new piece and Turner's didn't have it (or if I didn't feel like putting up with the usual Turner's stuff), I'd probably go to Grant's and hope they didn't have it in stock.

And if you've got to go to Turner's, go to the one in Fountain Valley. I'm constantly having negative experiences at the one in Orange. Fountain Valley seems to be run much better.

                      OC gunshops

I like the Grant Boys guys, they've always been knowledgeable and nice. They have a decent selection of guns and accessories. Easy to get to, decent neighborhood. Biggest drawback...they are the most expensive shop in town. As a result, aside from PPT's and the occasional small part or accessory, I rarely go there even though it's the most convenient for me.

Ade's is a nice mom and pop shop. Crappier location ( someone inside has to buzz you in ). Much smaller than Grant Boys, basically one long counter, it doesn't take many customers to crowd the place. The few times I've been there ( PPT's, bought my 21sf from them ) there has always been a long wait. Seems like there's always someone there doing some kind of a transfer. Gun selection is good. Ade will hold for sale private firearms for sale, which is cool of him. No tax, only PPT fees! Another plus is that he has a pretty cool collection of what he considers california legal AR's, Ak's and other assault rifles. Some may argue the legality of monsterman grips and mag release locks etc. Prices are very reasonable, I bought my 21sf for $590, which is what Turners is charging now...on sale! Plus my 21sf is the one with the picatinny rail which are very rare to find in California, he could've charged much more...and I would've bought it. I'd go more often if it wasn't so crowed though.

                      Never been to Fowlers.

Went to Stockage for the first time yesterday and remembered why I buy all my gun stuff online.

In my opinion gunshops are gonna slowly go out of business. Any accessory you'll ever need can be purchased online much cheaper and without the hassles. Also, do yourself a favor and buy you ammo at Walmart. It's cheap ( $30 for box of 100 .45acp ) and good stuff ( Winchester Whitebox ). This is much cheaper than Big 5 and any gunshop, sale or no sale ( Big 5 had box of 50 .45acp for $20....on sale! )

I think a lot of people, myself included, would rather avoid buying ammo from a store like Wal-Mart to help keep smaller stores in business.

Welcome to Calguns! In the South Bay area, you'll find So Cal Sharpshooter in Torrance. It's a gun shop/shooting range. They can pretty much get you anything you want. There's Insight shooting range in Artesia. They're also a shooting range/gun shop. They have a limited amount of guns they can get for you. In Cerritos there's Ammo Bros. They're OLL friendly and the guys there are very knowledgeable. Hope this gives you some options.
