Definitely +1 for Ade's Gun Shop. I've been to Fowler's and it's a nice shop with pretty friendly service atleast to me, though I've heard some horror stories. Never bought from them though.

        King's is closing.

Another shop is Martin B. Redding in Culver City. They have a good selection of stuff. More 1911's than anywhere else I've been.

They're not closing, but they are changing owners.

Props to Ade's and J&J Armory. Ade's has been great. Busy but a good place. You just need to know what you want. Same with J&J.

I like Turners the best. DON'T go to Martin B. Redding. Horrible service and horribly overpriced.

                      And what Turner's is that?

I'm trying to keep an open mind but...I would seriously much rather go get a filling done than go to Turner's.

You are correct. Have you heard if the new owners will still do gunsmithing? My buddy took his pistol in for some work and they are not accepting any new work.

                          My $0.02 worth of info

Ades: owner nice guy, helper an *****, selection well I've seen a bigger selection of guns on some poster's porn pics.

Gunrunners: no customers service, you will have to wait until the employees are done with their personal conversations before they help you. Mediocre prices, limited supplies.

Martin redding: great selection of guns, been there 4x and always good & friendly service, well stocked on supplies, prices seem average, big knife selection to boot.

All that being said, I have found the best deals via the internet. Shopping the internet doesn't lend itself to "impulse" buys -- I am on my second Sig purchase and have saved approx $375 between the 2 guns. That is factoring in shipping, fees etc. Example, latest acquisition is a sig P239 9mm for $425.00, nite sights, 2 mags, box, although it is used (200 rounds) and in 99% condition. Best price on a new one online was in the $625 range, no nite sights.

Recently I had to purchase all new cleaning supplies (from rail grease to patches) and kept going back and forth to Turners but they never had everything I needed and I wasn't about to come back every week for a 9mm brush to come in, then .45 jags to come 2 weeks later and so forth. Finally I was so pissed I decided to get all that stuff online also. Went to Midway USA.com and bought everything I need in one place and shipped to me.

Needless to say Im all for internet purchasing now. There are great deals out there if you're willing to check and track postings. Join the forums of the gun MFG(s) you like and soon you'll find who the dealers are and they have some great deals. Im a big sig fan and joined that forum, quickly I found who the top dealers on that site are and have made some great deals with them. My next purchase from a sig dlr is a set of SIG logo crimson trace laser grips - selling around the $225 range.

I'm sorry, but just about every employee I've ever spoken to at any Turner's doesn't seem to know crap about firearms. The only reason to go to Turner's is if they have a gun on sale.

I will admit there are a couple of guys at MBR who can be pricks, you just need to know what guys to talk to. At least most of the staff know what they are talking about. Or, will at least ask another employee if they don't know the answer to your question.

If you purchase a firearm online to have it shipped to you in CA it has to be shipped to an FFL and that firearm has to be on the CA DOJ approved list of guns. You go to the particular FFL/Gunshop you chose and give them the info of the seller and vise versa for the seller. They share their infos. Pay the seller and he ships it to your FFL. Your ten day wait starts when it arrives at the FFL.
