Will ammo prices return to normal?

Supply vs. demand is what will determine ammo prices. As long as demand exceeds supply, we'll see outrageous prices.
Once demand goes down and there's more supply in circulation, the prices should drop. But they'll never drop back down to the original price due to inflation.
In 2008, I bought the very last 50-round boxes of Federal .45 acp at my local Walmart for $15 each. In 2011, when the shelves were finally stocked up again, the same 50-round boxes were $17.50 each. My guess is that they'll be $20 per box in 2015.Originally posted by G. Serge must be swamped, he hasnt been able to even reply to me.
I have slowed my shooting and stopped buying ammo. Screw paying these prices, I refuse to do it. DO YOUR PART.

Yes, it will normalize again, but it will never be like it used to. I've invested in a crossbow for the time being. At least i can shoot in the comfort of my own home.sigpic

BS, I have personally bought gas for $1 US per gallon in countries that are not controlled by the US. Cross a border and price is equal to here. Oil is traded in US dollars except in countries that are not controlled by the US. Which countries will be end up in future war with US...you guessed it, those that refuse to trade oil in US currency. You don't think that there are more cars in places like china and india than there were last year? Oil demand around the world is on a constant climb.
Remember, they use oil for industrial applications as well - like making steel. All that construction in china for instance. Huge demand spikes.
An true global example of supply & demand...consider the iPhone. It costs the same regardless of the country its being sold in yet its sold in all foreign currencies.Comment

I think it's different this time. All the factors are in place to enact new laws to make life difficult for the gun owners. People will continue to buy ammo whenever it's available because they will remember the times that the shelves were empty in the LGS and don't care to ever be without ammo again. Stockpiling is the name of the game now. Also, the only reason you can't find .22lr is because people are shooting the cheap stuff rather than the $20 a box 9mm, so anytime .22 is on the shelf it is gone in moments.
If another Sandy Hook type incident takes place, you can be sure your rights to own and shoot firearms will become prohibitively expensive and new legislation will be forced upon us without any opportunity of input from the citizens of this once great nation.Comment

If they dont let you order on-line this will last a lot longer. Otherwise give it 2 more months. Its just like the gas shortage. But reamber ammo goes up every year so expect to pay a lil more if it get back to the same.

Prices will come down a slight bit in due time, but we'll never see pre-panic pricing except in limited & sporadic situations. The manufacturers have certainly taken note of what the "market will bear", and the retailers too are thrilled that they can typically sell out quickly at these higher prices. Neither will be in a huge rush to drop their prices until demand ebbs. And for the near term, demand continues to remain strong.
Bear in mind also that the 2nd Amendment cannot be interpreted in any way, shape or form to mean that you have the right to buy ammo at "cheap" prices. The politicians know that the right to bear arms is a nasty fight where they can only prevail on limited aspects. But the right to buy ammo for cheaper than it is now? That runs counter to the concepts of capitalism and the free market. You can't have it both ways - - i.e. rail about socialism/fascism/Marxism/communism/whateverism then turn around and expect the government to guarantee you the ability to buy unlimited amounts of new 62gr brass .223 for 30 cents a round.Comment

Yes they will. It's simple economics. In the civilian sector, people can only consume/stockpile so much. In the military sector, with the two wars in the middle east winding down, there won't be as many government orders to fill. Prices of raw materials are going up, but the true cost of making ammo hasn't gone up by much.Ah, the big million dollar question.
I have 45ACP to last me the next 2.5 months, but I'm wondering if by then the high prices become the norm. Or, if prices will drop.
Seems like this new panic is a beast of a different sort, so hopefully we aren't in for a long term screwing.Comment

I'll miss $9-10 but I'll settle for $11 as the good sale price.
