An empty mag engages the slide stop, so you would need to have at least one round in the mag or no follower in the mag in order for it to work.

I would imagine that it would be since an empty mag would cause the slide to lock back. But, I suppose that the vibration could be enough to cause the slide to move and the slide lock to release.

I have more than 1000 rounds through my SR9c and my slide release is still as stiff as it was when new.

Interesting. I will definitely be trying this next time I'm at the range. I am quite sure my neighbors wouldn't like the sound of an accidental discharge

Oh! Sorry, I meant the slide would go forward, not that the pistol would go off!

Just pull the follower and spring and replace the baseplate. Better yet, get some action trainers. Then you could practice malfunction drills too.

Not that you should be practicing with live ammo in your house in the first place.

Unless you are loading for the sake of being loaded for self defense, keep live ammo out of your gun.

No. No modern day handgun slide release is designed to drop the slide when inserting a loaded mag. Does it happen... yes but not by design. If it happens a lot, it means your mag spring is weak and not fully pushinG he release up to engage the slide.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. But it seems to be a fairly common occurrence.

That's because at 1K rounds your SR9c is still new.

Happens in my Glock 19 (6 months old) and I actually like it a lot. I always assumed it was a feature. I don't rely on it, but I always try for it first when I slam a mag in.

Brand new gun, brand new mag(s). 10 rounders (pain in the a** to load the 10th round so mag spring being weak doesn't come into play, as well as 17 rounders (when out of state), all factory S&W mags. EVERY time. Slide lock is stiff enough to require effort if releasing the slide via the slide lock. If its not by design it's a pretty dang good imitation of one.
