Wouldn't removing the barrel remove the possibility of hoppes getting on the frame? Personally I stay away from Hoppes because it has benzene in it and there's better alternatives (that won't give you cancer) out there.

I've been using hoppes #9 for all my guns even my 17 and don't see any issues..

3k rounds in the past year in the goock alone and still going strong with few cleanings here and there.. I also don't dip my frame in the stuff but I use a decent amount like I would any other gun.. This is with MagPul polymer parts as well.. So no issues here

Interested on horror stories if there are any..

Frog lube and don't sweat it again. Safe for the entire gun. Works great on the gun makes cleaning very easy.

Not really any need for any solvent on the frame. Just a dry toothbrush and wipe down with a dry rag/patch. Thats all I do. I read about people using everything on their Glock frames from Hoppes, to those aerosol degreaser sprays and Simple Green/water. What ever you feel comfortable with. I don't think you are going to hurt it.

I've heard of folks putting them in dishwashers. Even though I doubt it would hurt it, I'd be uncomfortable introducing lead to the same vessel that cleans my family's eating utensils.

I Like this idea. Sure it costs a little more but worth it. Btw, there was a recent thread in the Rifle forum I believe that stated American gun owners clean their guns " too much. " Neither here nor there but I do just enough, no more and no less.

Should we clean ? Yes. Should we go overboard? No.

                    Especially with the Glock platforms.

I have used Hoppes, but prefer Remington 40-X, due to the smell of Hoppes.

If I am correct. They haven't used benzene in hoppes for years.

It will not do anything as long as you don't let it soak in Hoppes. Iv been using it for years, I usually wipe off the Hoppes and then wipe the gun down with a rag with sheath on it.
