Used Hoppes on Glocks for over 10 years with no issues.

I honestly can't tell if people are serious when they say they put their Glocks in the dishwasher... do some of you really do that instead of using a solvent with toothbrush/q-tips?

I have in the past, but have to make sure the the SO doesn't see it. She has some kind of problem with cleaning handgun frames in the dishwasher...

I've gone away from using Hoppes after many years. Not that anything is wrong with Hoppes, I just wanted something a bit faster and less labor intensive. It's never hurt anything I've used it on, including polymer.

Not trying to derail the thread but this guy did some nice tests on a few gun cleaners, including Hoppes and Ballistol. Warning....he's pretty ocd about gun finishes and product claims regarding what will harm this and that.

Because its convenient, and works well.
But I don't soak down the frame...dip in a toothbrush, brush the frame/internals, and wipe down with a patch, then wipe down again with a slightly oiled rag, call it a day.

I do the same; its convenient and we can use it like that. But someone on here said it has a banana oil odor..... SO THATS WHAT THAT NASTY SMELL IS! THANK YOU for clearing that up! I HATE THE SMELL, but the product works really well for me!

You could do some destructive testing on the catch- cut into it and see if it's softer on the outside and harder inside. I'm betting it's the same consistency throughout.

I seem to remember the old Hoppes #9 stuff from 25+ years ago being harsher smelling and more 'solventy' than the new stuff too.

PS- for a nice follow up, drop the remnants of the mag catch in a bottle of Sweets solvent or some other copper remover and see if it hurts it

I voted "YES" because I've been using Hoppe's Elite on just about everything since it was first became available to civilians several years ago, and you didn't specify which Hoppe's formula you were talking about. Anyone who has used the Elite line (that I have seen & know) always sticks with it and even when a new product comes out for experimentation, they never fail to go back to Elite. Even their oil is amazing, as is their Field Cleaner.

Using Hoppe's to clean Glock frames is no problem.

For those that are paranoid however, don't let frames soak in Hoppe's then. Just clean it with rags/paper towels/Q-tips with Hoppe's on it, then wipe off excess after cleaning.

Your "one week soak" test might not be meaningful.

Don't quote me but I got vague memory of some plastic solvent container that seemed to hold up fine as a container but when same solvent was exposed to the plastic, and air, and daylight and TIME, it was a much different story.

Isn't this something Glock, or at least a real chemist, could weigh in on?
