I'll check city arms tomorrow to see if they have it instock. $500 is not bad for a lgs.

A Rock Island "1911" is a Filipino gun with a cast frame.

If you want to change something, you're going to have to live with that.

The beauty of a good 1911 is that the frame is forged which means you'll never run in to a void if you are checkering, doing a high hand cut, adding a beavertail or any other custom work.

An RIA might shoot OK but if you ever want anything else, buy a new gun, it's not worth trying to change anything.

To me the greatest feature of a custom 1911 is the pride of ownership when you know everything on your gun is as perfectly formed and fitted as humanly possible.

With an RIA you will never have that.

When I finally got a 1911 (SA Loaded) it quickly became my favorite handgun.

























Right up to the point when I got my SP-01.

I also vote SP-01.... Plus it will be cheaper to shoot than the .45 which = more trigger time.

I decided on getting the sp-01 since my girlfriend just told me she wanted to start shooting. So I think 9mm would be great for that. Alright anyone know who has it instock?

I bought both in May. Sold the RIA and kept the SP01. Since then ivebought an embarrassing amount of CZs.

OP - if the choice were mine, I would go with the RIA. Either pistol will start another addiction, might as well go for the one that will end up being a full blown hobby by itself!

CZ without a doubt. Had an RIA Tac. Shot and sold. They are good for the cash, but the CZ is just built better and worth more in my opinion.

My first 1911 was a Filipino POS and I wish I had spent about $200 more to get something decent enough to be the basis of a "tightly fitted top of the line custom 1911".

It also would have been better if I had found a Norinco.

And speaking of Norinco, I bought one for $100 and it's a big step up.
