Do people keep a bed side gun?

When I'm home I'm never more than a foot or two away from my G22, one in the chamber and a fully loaded preban mag. It's usually on my hip or the nightstand. If I have that stripped for cleaning, I have my 1911 cocked and locked within reach.

When I'm not home, or at night, my wife isn't far from her .38 snubbie. If I'm getting home late enough she might be in bed, I phone before I enter our driveway - she shoots better than I do and wakes more easily

I said no, but it's really not yet. I would like a nice semi auto shotty under the bed but untill I find a way to secure it in a manner that I can get to it quickly and no one can steal it with ease I'm not going to do it.

you know... i used to have it next to me at my former place when i was single and before i moved in with my (now) wife. i didn't feel a need for it prior. but for those who own motorcycles, they can probably relate to this feeling.

against my judgement, i told someone they can see the Sato rearsets I put on craigslsit at my home cuz they're on the bike still and he can sit on my bike for comparison (both our bikes are identical sans the model year, his is 05; mine 04). and i can't ride the bike to starbucks because my gout flammed up again and it hurts to even shift.

told me it's good. he'll buy them... got a call next day... said he can't due to more than budget he agreed with his wife. i kept him only in garage but saw my other stuff (dirt bike/scooter/misc bike/race parts). he didn't look like a bum and all, and acted pretty much like a newb but went to a trackday with stock rearsets and stock brake lines (usually no no on the stock lines for track unless they're really just newbs and going very slow). i didn't really feel like he was looking around garage scoping what else i have, kinda like those horror stories you read on forum about pretenders buying your stuff only to scope out that area.


but now i have this nagging feeling... i took out the usp from the safe and now keep it next to me in bedroom. mag separated but next to each other. since i can't really go to work cuz i can't wear shoes, i keep the usp next to me in my work office since i'm working remotely.

guess i'm just paranoid. but maybe fellow motorcyclists understand that weird paranoid feeling?

Yeah... Whenever I used to sell bikes I'd keep 'em outside the garage if possible, and keep the garage closed. Especially the non-race stuff which is easy to sell. You just never know. Of course now all the bikes I own are weird and unserviceable so only an idiot would try to steal them...

OTOH, if the guy is blabbering about his first trackday experience, don't worry about it I think.

If you are really worried, tell the guy the parts are not for sale any longer, as you sold the whole bike instead to a friend.

One less reason for him to come around.

Because I am paranoid and know that ATF, DOJ, BradyBunch, Grays, and Meth Heads are trolling this sight my answer is: I abhor the thought of taking personal responsibility to defend my life and that of my family. I would rather see my son butchered and wife and daughter raped, that live with the though of harming a person who society so disenfranchised, they felt it necessary to come into my house and harm my family because of all the sins my forefathers committed. I would much rather call the police so they, the designated and regulated government officials, could come and save me. Self defense is NOT something that any of us common subjects should have a right to. Our existence is only to serve our government and the commissar elite.

Beretta 92fs with snap cap in chamber, 10 rd mag full of speer gold dot HPs in a easy access safe near bed. Best i can do with 3 little ones.

Despite my abhorrence to the though of self defense as stated earlier. Why the snap cap in the chamber?

I feel ya on the bikes/guns security issue. When selling bike parts, I do it via Ebay (nobody snooping 'round the house) and when buying used parts or gear, I meet 'em at the local coffeeshop. As a single woman, it just makes sense to me to be a little more vigilant and prevent trouble. Too bad you can't just trot down to the local cafe with guns for sale...

You might ask the guy which provider he's doing a trackday with, and which track. If anything does happen, the trackday community is really small, tight-knit, and hates thieves with a passion--if you put out an alert to watch for specific stolen parts and a particular guy, they would.

And I have a 12 ga. under the bed and a flashlight in grabbing range, but I'm inspired by the other posts to get a holster rig on that I can bolt or strap to the bedpost to hold my 686.

Just wondering if people keep within arms reach near their bed, a firearm, and if so, what? What's your reasons? Are you a LEO or Military? Do you live in a seedy neighborhood?

You bet I keep a loaded gun within reach at night. My caveat is that I keep it in one of those nightstand safes that you have to enter a code to open. The nice things about the safe is that the guns can be kept ready to rock, and I don't have to worry about the exploring fingers of my kids causing unnecessary tragedies.

As a matter of fact, I have two guns in there (my wife has hers in there also).

I don't live in a bad neighborhood, but you don't have to anymore to have very bad things happen to you in your home. Unless you life in a gated community with mobile, armed patrols, you are NOT safe in your home anymore. And the roaches just love to come out at night.

....Biometric safe with a USP 45. I got robbed at gunpoint while returning videos a few years ago and now I'm a little more cautious when I'm out, as well as at home.
